I agree but I would also say that the mainstream audiance are not going to fall in love with someone and want to know everything about them based on looks, personality, how good they are as a model. Most people just don't care, they think models are interchangeable and usually mock them/criticise their wieght.

So to sustain fame, a model should date an equally or, better, an A-list actor. Isn't this Jlo's formula for success? But I think it's a calculating move that truly works. Gisele is a smart gal, afterall

for me, gisele is/was great because of her timing. she came into the modeling industry at a great time. and i think she knows what she's doing in terms of business. the reason most of america knows of her is because of victorias secret, it was a good career move to expose her... [in more ways than one ] too me personally, its not so much that she is stunningly gorgeous, i think she is definitely pretty, but her body is AMAZING

I think you both are right. Many years ago I read an article and the author was asking the same question: what made Gisele a household name to the american audience. It was pre-Leo, and she was already on her way to stardom because she represents an ideal to both women and men. She had the potential to be iconic, and one of the reasons - I wonder - is that she looks more down to earth, more normal, than any other model before and after her. Even though she's got fantastic features, she's not so ethereal and standoffish as the others tend to be.

Do you think Daria can duplicate half of Gisele's fame, in terms of mainstream america? I kinda doubt it. Daria will be big only in the Fashion circuit.

I think no one will duplicate Gisele's fame because models hardly ever speak to the non-fashion media and have such an appeal to the masses. Gisele's got that all-american look - which is safe for the comercial stuff - and, at the same time, she can do high fashion like no one else. Cindy Crawford, while having the first, wasn't so good with the last.

She does, she does...
I really don't think anyone can find anything wrong with her (her looks, that is). I mean, sure there's the chin, and the nose... but I think that her perfect body and symmetry compensate for them. I don't have a problem with them, but I've read other people talking about her chin and nose as "problems" before.
She's perfect, but not threatening, and I think that's extremely appealing to men and women.

There is only one reaon that Gisele is the biggest model, sex appeal. People like models with sex appel which is why Karolina was more of a hit than Natalia despite the fact that the fashion world seemed to prefer Natalia
And also the success of some of the biggest models Eva H, cindy, naomi, claudia...all these have sex appeal which is great for commercial success. Someone mentioned that Gisele is more of commercial than high fashion but the most important thing is, how much do you earn? To be a supermodel or 'big' model you have to be commercially acceptable which is why Daria is going to be replaced by the next Nataliya, Gemma or whoever else despite the fact that the fashion world seems to be head over heels over her.

She has great proportions and lovely limbs but she doesn't have a great waist. I think Karolina's body is more traditionally bombshell - in that it is more female. Gisele's face is much better than KK's though.

Nemova - Cindy C was great with high fashion stuff. If you go to some used mag store and browse through their mags you'll see her all over Italian, American and British Vogue, plus all her campaigns of course. She was HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUGE.

Of the new girls Nataliya could become a supermodel, possibly, because she has some all-american pretty girl appeal and photographs very very well.

I wasn't saying Cindy wasn't huge - I was saying that compared to Gisele, Cindy isn't too good with high fashion. She's too commercial IMHO.

i've noticed that of the really major supermodels, ie. Claudia, Elle, Helena, Cindy, Kate and Gisele, they all have the same facial structure as one another. It kinda hard to explain because you're probably thinking all models have similar facial structures but the top ones have certain characteristics that make them great for photgraphy etc.

If you notice, those top ones mentioned have a real womanly face which i think attributes to their longevity, as opposed to say, Gemma and Natalia who have babyish features.
