Gisele Bundchen

I thought we were talking about Giselle's horses. What don't you "get" about that?

I'm sorry, i read "YOU should know", not "from someone WHO should know"
my mistake!!
please disregard my comments!!
didn't mean to hit on you.....

Random, but today in my French class we were picking 'French named' and this one girl got all gigly and was like "I want Gisele!" And some other girl got mad like 'Aww, I was going to pick that one.' And than out teacher said something like 'Isn't there some supermodel from Germany named Gisele.' And half the class was like 'yeah' and than some boy in back shouts 'No, she's like from Brazil.. or somthing.. I guess.'

I just thought of this thread at that moment.:innocent:

context

To think that kate moss rose to fame circa 1992-93....and is still as successful as she wishes to be....still high fashion 12 years after.

I am curious to see if giselle is treated the same by history as kate....

giselle herself claims shes retiring by 2006. not sure if thats true.

IMO giselle will not have the longevity that kate moss has. I also do not feel that giselle's voluptuousness will be seen as important as the waif/smaller/distinctive look that kate pioneered. imo kate gave us gemma and stam and heather & lily so many other distinctive 'personality' girls that would never have been 80s supes.

I place twiggy & kate side by side as the greatest models in history. despite giselle's current omni-presence/omni-potence & fame, I in no way think that she will be viewed by history as the greatest model of anything. what did she pioneer? melon-sized breasts for victoria's secret? I see no great legacy for her impact other than current popularity as a mass-market fashion face/object.

I think Gisele is incredible.. yet she's not exactly my favorite girl... But I SEE why she is so famous... Think about it.. She can do EVERYTHING?????????!!!!!!!! From runway, major fashion editorials, commerical stuff, beauty, maxim, Victoria's Secret, Sports Illustrated.. Her look and body can fit in anywhere! That is what makes her so successful.
She also like others said brought in the Brazillian craze... as well as the sexy bod/curves on the runway again.
I remember seeing Gisele on TV and thinking WOW- WAY before I ever heard about her with Leo.
Her dating life has nothing to do with her success as a model.
Plus LEO was so "out" when she was dating him... He hadn't done a good movie in a long time.. I remember thinking eww why is she dating him? There would be so many better choices I would choose! lol...

But anyway, looks aside and all that... Gisele obviously must be someone people LOVE to work with... I highly doubt they would keep a b*tch around who didn't have a great personality. She is also an extremely talented model.. she always comes up with interesting poses and must be like magic to watch behind the camera.

I agree! So many models on the run way just aren't pretty or lively looking enough to do anything else, but Gisele is gorgeous!

Gisele Bündchen, Rio fashion week....she's more like an actress to me now  but still think she's great

Thanks for the pictures from Rio. I saw the smaller ones but the pics you posted says it all. I wish this body type was the look on all the runways. It's too bad it's not.

I think the biggest problem Gisele has when it comes to her detractors who say she is not high fashion is that tan and that hair. Gisele was high fashion at the beginning of her career -she had pale skin and dark hair and all you could see were her razor cheekbones, soaring eyebrows and her gorgeous unusual nose. She succumbed to the Brazilian revolution and got the LA (not Brazil) treatment which was the orange tan, the super white teeth and the 'natural' bed head and people lost sight of the unusual but unbelievable face. It became about sex and stopped being about fashion. And why not? It was the revolution that made her a star and she was perfect for it -but she was also perfect for haute couture and it is easy to forget that. Same with Tyra and other VS girls -they were in Paris for God's sake (not Klum -hell not Klum!!) There is no reason for Gisele to go back to that now -why should she bother. I am sure she would rather be a star than a cut glass high fashion model. But she is a supermodel. Ain't no doubt

A pic for her fans ;)

She is huge because of this:

Because before the girl from ipanema tan, blonde highlights and curlers turned her into the 'sexy' VS clone that many hardcore fashion fans (like most of us on this board) hated, she was this picture above. Razor sharp cheekbones, eyebrows that soared to heaven and an unorthodox defiant nose and chin that didn't make you go "oh she looks like..." but rather "I've never seen anything like her". She was a perfect mixed blood Brazilian -a perfect marriage of germanic and hispanic and she looked so young, so fresh and boy could she work a camera.

Granted the VS makeover did make her the superstar she is now and will always be (unlike some I think in 20 years time we'll still remember her like we remember Turlington and Moss and Twiggy because she defined the Brazilian Revolution. Before Brazil -there was a completely different mood and even I in my year 8 classroom could feel the sea change, the editors and fashionistas waving goodbye to minimalism) but god I wish she would lay of the St Tropez and do as Eva Hertzigova did after her years in the wilderness: pose in black and white with some blood and a butchers knife.

To Gisele and her future in fashion
