Gisele Bundchen • 1999 NYC Nightlife Series, post number 6 • Calvin Klein held his fall fashion show at Milk Studios in NYC. I was assigned to photograph the backstage happenings as well as the fashion show itself for Patrick. Gisele (@gisele) was 19 at the time and just breaking out as the new style of model. In 1999, Vogue credited her emergence as the end of the 90’s “heroin chic” look. I knew who she was and waited until she was done at her make-up station to approach her. When I asked Gisele if I could photograph her, she nodded with a smile and immediately went right into this deadpan stare. She knew what she was doing. I began firing away. I was shooting tri-x film with an on camera flash pointed directly at her. After about 12 frames I thanked her and wandered over to the other model stations. Looking back, I wish I’d approached it much differently from a lighting perspective. But that goes for most of my photos that I look back on. The images from Calvin Klein’s show ran in Vogue.

Gisele Bündchen: Model will open the World Stage of Rock in Rio
Gisele Bündchen will attend the opening of Rock in Rio on Friday. The model will be the first attraction, so to say, of the World Stage, where she will parade in the way that only she knows ("It is a force of nature!" Costanza Pascolato says), wielding a giant flag of Amazonia Live, festival. Through it, Rock in Rio plans to plant 1 million trees in 400 hectares of deforested area of the Amazon Forest, in the headwaters and headwaters of the Xingu River.
The opening of Rock in Rio will follow in this order: The sound of the bells ringing will warn that the festival is beginning. In the opening of the gates, aircraft of the Esquadrilha da Fumaça will make a special presentation casting colored smoke over the City of Rock - green and yellow to honor Brazil, blue and red to symbolize the Rock in Rio (are the official colors of the event) and white to ask for peace among the people. Then, drum the drums: she comes, Gisele, triumphant, on the World Stage.
