Givenchy F/W 2025.26 Paris

Strong debut and bravo to her for doing something very different to what she was doing at McQueen. Those tailored pieces were sublime! She deserved the standing ovation. And it was so nice to see people applauding at the end instead of just bored and on their iPhones at the finale.

LOVED this.

GIVENCHY

Definitely more memorable than CWK’s and Matt’s debut collection for Givenchy. although its kinda all over the place with influences from other brands (Alaia, The Row and other tons ~minimalist PP Celine lite brands~, Schiaparelli, even MGC’s Dior lol) but i think she succesfully conveyed the message of new elegance from her Givenchy.

I can't wait to see her doing couture! This show is a very strong starting point, even the bags have a lot of potential. There's a hint of camp, but reasonably applied, there's fantastic tailoring, there are great prints. This show made me really happy and left me wanting more.

she really tried hard to let the silhouettes speak for themself and let go of all the embroidery and bedazzling she had at mcqueen. Love the inverted tux dressess and the best look for me was the corseted leather jacket with zip details paired with a pencil skirt. Although im not sure how givenchy it was, it was definitely a classic burton silhouette.

Im sure she will slowly push it forward and i cant wait to see her get comfortable in this new givenchy language while keeping her signatures.

The accessories look beautiful.

LOL what a flop
At Mcqueen she was very focused and polished, why does this show look messy and sloppy?
Also, TOO MANY GIMMICKS! Who styled the show? The cringy opening look, the latex GIVENCHY logo booties, the powder compact dress, the oversized glass jewelry, the tulle overload coming straight from a Valli's outlet shop...
She's not gonna make it past the 3 years contract with these kind of collections

When that first look come out I knew we were in trouble…

There were some strong looks here and there (unsurprisingly the tailoring), but the majority was shockingly awful. It looked so dated, like straight out of early 2010s, and so NYFW basic looking. Her work at McQueen was so rich and grand… where was any of that here?

She earned the benefit of the doubt so I’ll wait for more collections, but this was a huge disappointment for me.

She would have been great at Alaia…
Great casting.

I find the collection surprisingly unfocused. I don’t think I have ever seen an unfocused SB collection. I was also puzzled by the obvious branding.

I think tailoring is her forever her forte and she does it perfectly. I was less convinced by the obvious « Hubert-ism ». I can’t believe that I’m saying that but I hope the collection was more Sarah Burton than Givenchy actually. I think unfortunately that Givenchy’s design language is not that strong to be interpreted in a very literal way. She has the feminity and rigor of Givenchy so she can do it maybe more smoothly than her predecessors.
I like the Phoebe Philo shoes, less convinced by the bags but nevertheless it’s an OK debut.

Not memorable but believable enough for Givenchy.

i think her first solo collection at mcqueen was also quite unfocused.. Was just a "best-off".

I had to do this, these flared skirts looks are a low budget Christian Siriano's version of this stellar Clare couture dress.
The netting and the bra / culottes showing underneath giving huge Alaia vibes also.
I wonder what Delphine thinks of this flop debut.
If you remove the tailored looks from this collection you get a Christian Siriano show at best...

^^
Come on, be fair. You compare a velvet couture dress with a RTW dress made in Jersey…
I think Burton has proved that she has nothing to envy to anyone when it comes to execution and craftsmanship.
Whether we like her collection or not is something else but she is untouchable when it comes to quality.

I though her first solo McQueen collection had a nice progression. It was super excessive but it was good.
I feel like here a lot of things were super random. The logos, the pointless Hubert references. Even the finale dress doesn’t make sense with the rest.

The cuts and tailoring are the highlight here but I expected no less from Sarah in those metrics. They've always been her forte. If it weren't for those then this would've been a mess. Those tight jersey/fishnet dresses were unnecessary. Even Olivier's iteration of that for Balmain years ago was better.

Overall, it's an alright and inoffensive collection. But between this and Julian's Dries and Haider's Tom Ford - I think hers is the weakest debut, sadly. But she'll find her footing. I believe in her! ^_^
