Givenchy Haute Couture S/S 2011 Paris

The things sprouting out of their backs are REALLY weird. It looks like Tisci stuck a bunch of legos on the model's backs. The colors are also super jarring.

The collection is exquisitely made, but all of the dresses look like variations of last couture collection's ostrich feather dress. Only this time instead of skeletons, there are origami birds.

I'm personally more wowed by the dresses in this collection than the last HC one, despite being very similar. The only HC collection this week that has impressed me.

While certainly nowhere near important as the actual clothes, I think the hats are absolutely ridiculous. I've seen Philip Treacy make HUGE hats & headpieces, all of which, I think have struck a perfect harmony w/ the both the clothes and wearer (ie: McQueen, even this seasons Armani Prive collection), but here, the hats just look totally random & out-of-place...and they look like they actually weigh more than the models..:ninja:

i'm in love, utter, unconditional love with these pieces.
speechless.

There's something about Tisci, HC and ugly giant hats. For his first "Mariner" HC collection where he introduced oversized gold studs, he also showed really awful giant Mariner's hats.

I'm not so keen on the robot tacked-on embellishment at the back as well, but overall, the dresses are so exquisitely done as befits HC techniques, while retaining a modern sensibility in the silhouette and cut, I am happy to overlook the "distractions". Chanel is hideous in comparison.

I love the collection, but not as much as the previous HC collection. I think a bit more variety than floor lengths gowns would be preferable. I really wish I could see the clothes in motion as well. That is one the best things about catwalk; you can see how the clothes move and the colours and textures in the light and shadows. Very little effort would be required for them to produce a 3 minute video of the models walking in the room, but I suppose it would make the collection less exclusive by allowing people to actually see more than a few photos.

Haha, I love this.

Someone made this video unavailable on tfs, whil it's still available at youtube. Hilarious

^ I know.

Well.. if they just want to redirect members, I'm sure members can find their channel on their own, too. Video removed.

Beautiful work, this is really incredible collection. very consistent and unique.

This is seriously amazing. Bravissimo Tisci, lei e un grande maestro.
I personally havent seen anything of this breathtakingly artistic calibre since Theyskens' earlier Ricci collections and McQueen's work...it merits emotions and tears. The collection is deeply Japanese in its understanding and sensibilities and workmanship in the best possible way, as if it has been around for decades in a museum in Kyoto. To those who whine that it is not varied or new enough, as always I say who freaking cares...what the world needs is passion beauty and dedication, which simply overflow in this collection.

Speaking of wich, my first impression of the collection is that Tisci's gone through the files and looked-up the years that McQueen was doing Givenchy. Because it reminds me a lot of him, specially his last collection...

i love the fact that he pays so much attention to the back. that's another very japanese aesthetic.
