Apparently no one noticed the 2 Mers thing until Shonda, the producer who also is one of the writers, mentioned it on GA podcast. She also said that shot is significant. Friends of mine are guessing maybe that little girl is Mer's inner child or that she is the dead girl who came to help Mer deal with things. (I know, I know, we should all get a life.:p ) This is not just a simple ER episode.

Excerpt from the writers' blog:

But please remember that next week, things get even more interesting and then the week after that, they get REALLY interesting.

Ferry boats are a metaphor for Meredith, you know.

What I was interested in was Meredith and how she was doing after being hurt by her mother. And the devastation of the ferry boat was the best way to physicalize Meredith’s pain.

The little girl? She’s also a metaphor for Mer. A motherless lost girl who can’t speak for herself and disappears? Okay, that’s too obvious. But you all know Meredith’s been doing a dance with death for some time. Y’all know that if you’ve been watching. She’s dark, our girl. She’s dark and twisty. And I worry about her.

Now, I’m really worried about her because she’s in the water and I want to be clear with you: I don’t put people in the water for no reason. Meredith’s got issues, she’s got serious Mommy issues and she’s broken and she’s in the water.

I killed Denny. I blew up Dylan.

I’m not entirely playing by the rules of TV here.

There’s a point. And it’s coming. Shoots With A Script and I have our fingers and toes crossed that it works.

Because what happens next…well, just wait and see…

i knew it! Shonda is such a great writer i think it's a supertalent to translate these metaphors into a storyline. The show and its events reflect all of the actors storylines. Especially Merediths.

OH MY!!! what a preview!!!!!!!!!!! An actual drill? Sometimes tv shows are SO surreal!!!But that's the fun part.

oh if the ferry boat and little girl are both metaphors for meredith, im guessing that somehow derek does something heroic either to save meredith herself or save one of the metaphors of her...if that makes sense

also i wonder if that pregnant woman whos face is severly disfiguired is someone they know? like dereks sister, or something

I rewatched that ep on ABC.com to look for the 2nd Mer and found something...The dead little girl, the little girl (the one with Mer), and Mer all wore the same sneakers. Isn't that spooky?

Did you guys notice the picture on Cristina's locker when she tried to tell Mer her engagement? That's a picture of a blonde wearing a little black dress. Do you think it means something?

Why did Addiston say Derek is dating the perfect 12 year old?

I think you may have to put some stuff into a spoiler box.

But I'm really looking forward to next week's episode. I'll Tivo it, since CSI is on at the same time.

Jesus Christ we are paying attention to the most weird things! LOL

That episode was full of surprises!

I think that is Meredith (the picture on Cristina's locker). When did Meredith's hair become darker? I watched GA's 1 season on Lifetime channel last night. Meredith's hair was much blonder. (Am I reading too much into it?)

Can't wait for the next episode.

I wonder how Christina and Burke are going to work out...she seems disconnected (emotionally) from him.

I found the quote

He is alone! All alone! Do any of you even know what that feels like? To BurkeLives with Cristina. To Derek Digs the perfect twelve-year-old. To Mark Man wh*re!

I dont get what she means whe she says "Digs the perfect 12 year old"?

I don't sense that the reference is directed at Meredith as being 12, but rather towards Derek as the 12 year old.

^^ I didn't really get that at all on the show, so thanks for clearing it up.
