Gwens Style Takeaway

Here are a few items from the line, I've got to say that she's got some cute stuff, I love sailor pants and pencil skirts, I'm glad she's encorporated those :D
I have high expectations of Gwen so she'd better not dissappoint:angry: haha
I think she'll stand out from the other celeb "designers" :P out there.

I have a feeling that her show will overshadow fashion week, just like J.Lo's did.

I don't think it will ... she doesn't have quite that megawatt thing that JLo has (and that doesn't always work to JLo's benefit).

She is passionate about the work, she's been doing it for awhile now, and she does set direction for the line. Some of the pieces look quite wearable, and they're pretty reasonably priced.

While I like some elements of her style, I found some of the photos in the recent article about her & L.A.M.B. to be ... hmm. She was wearing (from her own line of course) a short "English" wool plaid jacket, brown leather Daisy Dukes, bright white leggings that went on for miles, and stilettos. An outfit I wouldn't be caught dead in, now or at any point in my past ...

I'm positive I would find it easier to dress from her line than the new Sean though.

i loved the jacket with the bow on the sleeve. [i think i have a thing for bows. especially oversized bows. as in the ysl gown with the pink oversized bow.]

if it was socially acceptable for guys to wear bows, i'd so be sportin bows. no joke.

^^ Yeah, I like that blazer
She's also got some men's graphic tees

I think she'll do fine. It might be a little dissapointing after all the hype, but what can you expect - she's just starting out. I have more hope for her than other celebrity designers.. I didn't even bother to look at Jennifer Lopez's line. I don't think it'll ever reach a major designer house level, but I'd buy something from it.

i cant wait to see it, shes so much more down to earth than other celebrity designers

I like Gwen's style, and her LAMB line, but isn't her line just as random as any other celeb line...she doesn't actually design the clothes herself, she has a design team- the same way another celeb designer does. I'm not knocking her line at all, because I'm a fan of it myself, but I don't think she deserves a pass...:innocent:

it's been said that she's got a pretty big hand in the design process.
she's really into the fabric selections of the pieces...
and she DID major in art in college..so i'm sure she can bang out a few sketches...
i think they talk about how involved she is in the article W magazine did on her (it's in the one with kirsten dunst on the cover, current isssue) ...

but anyways....
the article posted was a section taken from this bigger article from yahoo news, it goes into it a little more..
i'm already a gwen fan, but i love that she realises her line isn't like that of other celebrity wannabe designers BUT also knows that she's just starting out and has a long way to go before even trying to run with the big dogs, if it ever gets that far.....i especially love the last line in the article..she's an adorable woman...

Gwen's Little L.A.M.B. Hitting Big Time

When Gwen Stefani takes the stage during New York Fashion Week, she won't be belting out chart-topping songs. Instead, she'll be showing off, well, belts, among other things.

The spring collection of L.A.M.B. features sweet floral frocks in prints of wisteria and chrysanthemums, and there'll be hard-core, edgy details like padlocks and chains, too.

L.A.M.B., which stands for Love, Angel, Music, Baby, makes its debut on the runway Sept. 16, the finale of eight days of fashion previews for spring 2006. It's the same slot that Jennifer Lopez's Sweetface collection filled last season.

Stefani says she's not jumping on the celebrity fashion designer bandwagon for a quick ride. (Others planning collections in the coming months are Beyonce, Jessica Simpson and possibly even Justin Timberlake. Granddaddy Diddy launched his Sean John line in 1998 and won a Council of Fashion Designers of America award last year.)

What she hopes sets her apart from the crowd is her attention to detail. "L.A.M.B. is a fashion line that — fingers crossed — will just get more and more sophisticated. What's different than what's out there is the way I put things together. And, if you look inside the pants, you'll find secret details in there."

Stefani says she's learning to navigate the bumps of the industry, including production delays and expensive fabrics, and that she's ready for some criticism — the constructive kind, she hopes — from fashion editors and retail buyers after her big show. She's getting help from designer Zaldy and creative consultant Andrea Lieberman.

"I don't expect to fit in right away but I do sense that the fashion world is rooting for me, too. I'm not being treated like a celebrity wannabe fashion designer. But even if I was, it doesn't really matter because I'm doing this for me ... but it does feel really good when you have a hit," Stefani says during a recent interview.

Stefani does have some real fashion credibility: On the red carpet, she's considered a trendsetter. Her style is a mix of silver screen siren, gangsta girl, California mall rat and Hello Kitty.

She recently won Diddy's MTV Awards fashion challenge when she put on a leopard-print mermaid halter dress with a thin black ribbon belt to the ceremony.

L.A.M.B., which is priced like other contemporary designer collections mostly in the $100-$300 range, is in its sixth season. There's now a secondary line filled of Japanese technopop novelty items called Harajuku Lovers.

Fashion editors seem to genuinely believe in her; Stefani and her designs have appeared in W, Marie Claire, Elle, Lucky and InStyle. And, maybe more importantly, retailers are fans of the No Doubt frontwoman. The flagship Bloomingdale's store in Manhattan is featuring L.A.M.B. in its windows for two weeks in September.

What customers will see when it does arrive are clothes that are a little bit Victorian and a little bit Captain Hook. The styles complement Stefani's "Rich Girl" video.

"Maybe I take a little inspiration from my costumes. `Rich Girl' put me in a pirate mode, and I was designing fall '05 in London and I was into the royal thing. ... When I went into the costume house, it was all there, stuff from `Pirates of the Caribbean.' The colors and velvets and distressing was very much what inspired me," she explains.

The song "Rich Girl" also mentions two of Stefani's favorite designers, Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, the creative force behind Christian Dior.

"The only real designer that I give all my money to is Vivienne Westwood. Every time I go to London, I have to buy three suits. Her clothes fit me really well. They're modern, classic and everything that I love," she gushes. "She's the queen!"

As for Galliano, his gowns remind her that she's still got a lot to learn about fashion. But, she says, being a musician meant she already knew how to turn an idea into a product.

"Music and fashion, it all comes from the same place of creativity," Stefani says. "I don't see why any musician who has style or pays attention to style couldn't do it (fashion). It's an extension of my personality. I can't explain why I like it, it's just always been that way for me — like pizza," Stefani says.

Stefani, 35, recalls "fittings" when she was 3 for the clothes her mother made her and that when it was time to do back-to-school shopping, she'd take her $100 allowance and go wild in the thrift stores.

"I'd peg the pants and cut the shirts. My room was always a sewing disaster. I'm not a great technical sewer but I had the ideas. I'd use Velcro instead of zippers because they were easier to do."

It took Stefani 18 years to become the musical success she is today, currently with two Top 20 hits, so if it takes a while for her fashion career to really take hold, that's OK, she says. Deep down inside, though, she doesn't think it'll take quite that long.

"I probably wouldn't be doing this show if I wasn't who I am. ... I'm honored to walk in at this level. I'm cutting in line and thank you for letting me cut in line, but I will stand here for a while. I'm not in a rush."

At least she acknowledges that there are a lot of celebrity wannabe fashion designers....

Yap.. I agree with meg.. ^_^
Just find that Gwen's LAMB line is not bad..
it's great to be able to do whatever you like,
Collection is so very her.... great! :flower:

I think that the biggest difference between Gwen's line and some other celebrity desinger is that she didn't just suddenly started to do desings and stuff, she has always for example customised her own clothes and now she takes a part with designing and she picks the fabrics and so on, not like for example J.lo who says yes or no to the desings that seh likes or don't like.
Gwen said on recent interview that she really has this passion for fashion and hopes that after her caree as musician she can became full-time designer. That LAMB isn't just a quick way to make more money.
And LAMB collection is actually nice and it sells quite well.
Of course her name name and fame helps, but most of her fan can't afford to buy her clothes, so the ppl who actually are buying LAMB just simply likes the designs.

Here's a taste of what to expect: :D

Gwen Stefani, dressed head-to-toe in her own L.A.M.B. clothing line, heads out to the Fashion Rocks afterparty on Thursday. The singer, who also performed, will close Fashion Week on Sept. 16 with her Spring 2006 collection. (people.com)

that's absolutely hideous....

gwen totally missed the boat with that one....
though, i do think the jacket is decent if it's not paired with the matching pants......
it's probably part of the 'black and white' section of the collection (lol, duhh)....
and the dress she wore at fashion rocks red carpet was part of the 'rasta gatsby'..
it looks very eclectic this season so far! lol.

^^I'm sure (at least I hope) that that's NOT what to expect :P
I also like the fact that she acknowledges that she's been given the chance to cut in line in a sense.
I always get frustrated when a high profile name decides to start a new business venture and claims that they've worked their ***es off to get to where they are with that other industry, yes I believe that they have worked hard but no-namers have to work twice as hard to get the same degree of recognition.

Sailor pants, flared jeans, jacket with bows...don't these things already exist? Do we need another celebrity squeezing out much needed show time and press coverage which could have been given to another promising new designer who is completely dedicated to this art?

Ok, so she wears McQueen and DVN, but so would I if I have the same $$$! From what I have seen of her, she isn't even a Kate Moss - always over styled and in an outdated Hollywood way - same tired Marilyn Monroe platinum hair, black eyes and red lipstick no matter the weather. It's even worse when she tries to wear "street"...gaudy, tacky, in your face sexy, again over made-up and "done" - the perfect candidate for a make-under. She tries too hard with her image, which isn't a bad thing in itself since she has the media on her 24/7, but to be convinced that she is the next Sophia Kokosolaki!!

I don't mind her personally, heard she is a nice person irl, but her music and design talent, that's another thing.

There is a huge difference between what it takes to wear nice clothes, to look good, to style and to design, in ascending order of talent, difficulty and effort.

I am not against celebrity fashion per se, but ONLY if s/he has something original and new to offer, not just cashing in on the name. Bjork for example - she's always creative, experimental and leagues ahead of others in terms of style. But then she's not the type who jumps on the trend wagon on a whim and sells to her legions of faithful fans either. B)

Makes me want to tear my hair out!!

And what heights of originality to call your line "Harajuku Lovers" when there is ALREADY a well-known Japanese label called "Lover".

I can't wait to see the show. She seems to be genuinely interested in fashion. I remember she gave an interview where she likes to dress up as cartoon characters or something like that. Remember she's just a girl from Anaheim... :D

Is this the "pirate-spat-up-by-the-crocodile line"??? Or the "Vivienne Westwood threw up"?
