Julia Nobis, Hanne Gaby Odiele, and Issa Lish behind-the-scenes on our Fall '15 campaign
styleYou’re very involved with the casting for your shows. What do you look for when it comes to a model?
I look for personality; I talk to the girls, and I feel like it’s really important that we relate and have a relationship. The way I cast my shows isn’t about a 360 change every season: You always see an evolution, and you always see recurring girls. There are girls I’ve had relationships with, and to me, it’s important to have this group of models that always represents the clothes, because it’s a collaboration. A beautiful design needs the right person to wear it, to make it the look.
Someone like Hanne Gaby [Odiele]—we always put her in the outfit we don’t know what to do with, and she always makes it look cool. She has great style, and she knows what do with her body, she knows what to do with the look. And when the outfit just doesn’t work, I’m like, “Let’s put Hanne Gaby in it; she’ll work it out.” And that’s always the joke between us. She always makes it work. And so it’s women like that who feel inspiring to me. I work with these girls not only on the runway or campaigns: We hang out, we dress them for their various events—it's an ongoing relationship.
For a model it’s important to be on the right radars, and casting director Anita Bitton‘s a great one to be on– she regularly casts for top clients such as Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs. For the second issue of Masters Magazine, Anita chose some of her most inspiring faces of the moment with photographer Marc Pilaro capturing the list of girls unposed and unguarded to show off that elusive something and effervescence that makes them the wanted models they are.
