Hedi Slimane - Designer

Just say you're good at denim jfc

The vibe of Hedi's latest post is very confusing. I try not to read too much into this but but this seems to be the first time he talks about his garments on his personal instagram page...which seems a little odd and desperate

And I honestly don't get the hoopla over those flares...I have a version of them from Celine and personally love them but not sure if they are doing Mr Lamar any favors (besides generating headlines I guess...)

Are we going to really see flare in the streets ?
So Pharrell is the true visionnary in those 2020s ?
Praying for men to stick to straight pants. I do love a flare velours tuxedo though. On a tall man, it always looks right.

I’m also confused…
He is claiming ownership over a pair of pants he designed because it’s part of cultural moment yes but what’s the point?
How does it benefit him?
Is he going to launch a line of permanent pieces under a brand called « Hedi »?

Because now people will buy the pair of jeans from Celine and most of them don’t care or know about Hedi Slimane.

This whole "cultural moment" around a normal, if nice, pair of jeans feels particularly contrived. 'Wardrobe malfunction' levels of contrived. It's also interesting that Hedi's Celine finally has a moment in the U.S. after he left the company, but before any non-Hedi stuff has dropped.
It smells vaguely of low-key social media meltdown vibes. It's not a meltdown, just a ramble, but the vibes are there.

IN HIS SPRING/SUMMER 2020 COLLECTION, HEDI SLIMANE - Y'KNOW, THE GUY WHO INVENTED SKINNY JEANS (DURING HIS VARIOUS REIGNS OF TERROR AT THE HOUSE FORMERLY KNOWN AS YVES SAINT LAURENT [THE HELLP WERE STILL IN DIAPERS AT THE TIME, MIND YOU, WHICH PROVES HEDI POPULARIZED SKINNY JEANS ALL BY HIMSELF])— INVENTED THE FIRST FLARED JEANS, WHICH HE COPYPASTA-ED INTO BOTH COLLECTIONS THAT SEASON, BUT IN A COOL, REBELLIOUS, ANDROGYNOUS WAY, NOT IN A LAZY, WHY-MAKE-MORE-PATTERNS-THAN-YOU-ABSOLUTELY-NEED-TO WAY.
(Got timed out adding this to my last post.)

I have so many questions...
Hedi watches the Super Bowl?
Who from Celine tipped him off about Kendrick Lamar?
Did he use his Celine copywriter to write his own caption...in third person?
Does Hedi manage and write his own instagram content?
- He probably watches The Super Bowl HT show.
- I think an event like that requires months of preparations so Kendrick’s stylist probably pulled many things from many houses and therefore was in contact with the PR from Celine.
- Even if the stylist didn’t connect with the PR, once the info of Kendrick wearing Celine jeans is out, it doesn’t take long for Hedi to figure things out.

- He has always used his social media as a journal/ Professional platform so I don’t think he has ever used the first person.

- He or his assistant writes his tweets and posts but he is 100% behind them.
But the magic of his tricks is to make people believe that his representatives are speaking on his behalf.

I find the push for Hedi at Armani a bit perplexing. Much like Chanel, Armani is fundamentally built on an appreciation for beauty, elegance, and refinement in design. While Hedi is very rigid in his design rather than a celebration of beauty or grace.

Hedi has proven he isn’t invested in crafting pieces that could be described as "pretty" or "inspired" in a traditionally beautiful sense.

Him at Armani feels like a mismatch in philosophy.

He should have his own house. I would be interested in seeing how much revenue he could generate with his own name.

I’m just curious about 1 little thing: Hedi doing sexy and Glamorous comes from where? Some kind of allegiance to what Tom Ford did at Gucci?

Because why would Hedi suddenly change all his design ethos to suit a brand when everything he has done was the way around?

I think the only time I have ever find his work sexy was when he did the slick campaign with Anja Rubik for Saint Laurent in 2013 or his first stint at YSL in the 90’s.

Hedi maybe the master of cool but he is really anti-sexy for me. And when he do try the sexy route, they looks like groupies. There’s no sensuality in his work even though he likes to play with ambiguity.
that's why exactly i think his work stay on the edge of modern because going too sexy makes it banal and in AV YSL and balmani cheapness ...as hedi is already commercial so it's the right balance to not indulge into the sexy because the glamour play he does all the time even if it's always toned down via set or no makeup or the type of girl etc or pose even.

i don't know why but i feel more and more there is a bog chance he could go there i don't know why its odd if he went ...he never did a italian brand or showed interest to tap into this side of his background.

also is Catino that bold and convincing to invite such a strong person into the brand ...on one side it would be an easy ride for him as ceo hedi will lead all the creative restructuring and merchandising etc

Hedi is known to restructure remove and delete/ review every details even in production so much will have to be reviewed and i think he will take time to do this before first show.

I had to Google Kendrick Lamar to know who the hell is (another rapper...wow!). 😴 As exciting as those generic flare jeans...
just to give it context : Kendrick Lamar is good at his craft he is not just any rapper and speaks of important issues as well.

he is not generic by any means. of course if one doesn't listen to rap, Mozart or Beethoven or chopin sound all the same.

I hate hip-hop/rap...so for me it sounds all the same (a guy talking quickly with some automatic tune over it).

Give me Barry White!! Or The Weekend...

^ it sounds the same because you're uninitiated my boy. I don't forecast you getting a proper, yummy start any time soon but fyi, a long shower serenaded by Don Toliver as a start and Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no. 2 in c minor op. 18 as the grand finale...😮‍💨 🚀

I saw Kendrick Lamar live almost ten years ago and he remains one of the best live performances I've ever seen and I feel bad that yesterday was just not the right place for the way he connects with the crowd. And when he started walking towards the camera, I was seriously thinking...... that these jeans were a choice.. what an odd/Kardashian-esque shape they give. Takes me back to my argument that you really need to go Haute Couture lady when it comes to Hedi Slimane products and truly commit body and soul (lol), don't just commit the soul, you're not going to look good..

No, it sounds the same because I don´t like hip-hop/rap...I can´t with it. Love jazz, bossa-nova, glam-rock, new-wave...but I can´t stand hip-hop/rap.

I discovered the whole Super Bowl affair just right now. Not into sports either...
