Hedi Slimane - Designer

Of course Celine is overpriced, this is "luxury" clothing we're talking about, but I'm looking and that Uniqlo cut is not doing it for me. And innovation to make 99% cotton denim more stretchy than usual is not going to impress most denim enthusiasts.

Youā€™re missing my point, what I was mentioning about has nothing to do with innovation, as most of the leading Japanese fabric mills (which Uniqlo also sources denim fabrics from) will have both stretch and non-stretch selvedge denim these days. Uniqlos selvedge denim is just very well cut and made, from the stitching to the aforementioned quality of the denim - Particularly at such an affordable price, of which Celineā€™s lowest priced jeans cost nearly 14 (!) times the price of said Uniqlo ones. With a garment like that, you really have to see it in the flesh and not from an e-commerce website.

At such a steep discrepancy of price and a decline of luxury goods demand, itā€™s fair to look at the evident quality of the product. I would never prioritize the purchase of luxury denim over that for a sartorial tailored jacket or goodyear welted boot as I know the investment will be not only in longevitable style but also durability, which is one of the reasons why my Dior Homme held up perfectly in nearly 20 years and still looks as good to wear today as when it was first released - That is what I consider the beauty of Hedi Slimaneā€™s design.

Tangentially, I'm curious how cotton/silk jeans wear compared to all (or 98% šŸ˜‰) cotton denim. Can you machine wash them, or hand wash in cold water? Do they stretch over time at stress points? Do they shrink noticeably after washing or drycleaning? Do they fade?

A person doesn't need to be that tall or skinny to get the effect of Hedi cut skinny jeans. The "chopstick" cut itself goes a long way to creating that silhouette for you. Which is not to suggest Hedi is the only one capable of cutting that silhouette.

Thatā€™s Anthonyā€™s SLā€” which is reliably midrange, just like his haircut, Tyrone.

Hedi would never.
stop coming at me with your facts and logic please šŸ¤ššŸ» itā€™s called being a hypocrite I can say whatever I want and also disparage other people itā€™s a win-win

I am not into denim by any means (kudos to the community though, they're really passionate about it), but it's comparing apples to oranges. A lot of time and effort would go into trying to replicate the Celine washes. And even then... you're stuck with a fit that looks straight out of Gap šŸ’€

I think the REAL reason why people love Hedi's denim is often they just fit a skinny, taller body better than most brands
Because majority of the world are blessed to have skinny long legs.

Oh how fashion have declined to a pair of jeans. And to commend celines washes... have you heard of diesel

Unless you want to go up a substantial percentage of silk, the difference would mainly be a loss in weight, compared to all-cotton denim. You could go the length and twist a silk yarn as that of regular cotton threads used for denim but why when the effect will mainly be that of a very, VERY expensive pair of jeans with a lustrous surface? That being said, I have seen Japanese weavers who did something similar by blending cotton and cupro for a denim with similar property.

In terms of their performance, I donā€™t see how you could not wash them on a silk cycle or by hand but the question begs itself whether a person who can afford such a pair of jeans will not bring most of their clothes to the specialist dry cleaner anywayā€¦

This is how I feel about purses tbh. It takes a minimum of craftsmanship, design, and quality to make something that will carry my stuff securely and comfortably. Beyond that they don't hold my attention. But I figure people who actively appreciate bags and leather goods see the same variety and self-indulgent detail when they look at purses that I do when I look at tailoring or denim.

For better or worse I do remember the 90s, yes.

I'm not going to defend Hedi as the #1 best denim maker in the world. I'm just saying that if one is enough of a denim dork, Hedi's denim isn't interchangable with Diesel. A true denim victim has room in their heart for both.

Drycleaning, with very little, barely noticeable, shrinkage or fading, but to be honest they are not that old and I alternate a lot between them.
And they have a waistband curtain inside the belt, like on regular wool or cotton trousers, that I have not seen on any other denim, and which is another reason why I would not try machine washing, to avoid color tranfers.

as much as i hate smokers the smell etc ...people been smoking for centuries regardless of the cool factor promoted since the silverscreen years

with so much dumbing down of culture & sameness, i found the smoking in the video the most daring part and representing that disco era and naive hedonistic freedom with the head dress ..

i would argue without the smoking it would feel more now and average and less vintage and i guess he wanted it be more vintage as usual
Yes, he wanted a total vintage copy. But I canĀ“t understand how people can be more scandalized by bare-breast than smoking.

Intriguing.... Thank you!

I'm not rolling my eyes because I'm scandalized.
