Help With What to Wear to a Costume or Themed Party

...or is this just hideous....I feel a bit self conscious because its a curvy dress and I don't wear things like this normally. I feel like I look fat in it.

Let me assure you that you don't look fat The dress is gorgeous and looks great on you!

I'd go for the black shoe. They up the glamorous factor which is more in tune with the Rat Pack imo. I think tights would be too heavy for the occasion, but perhaps sheer black hose if you think you need them

A short jacket would be perfect Helena! And I don't really think you need jewelry. It might interfere with the dress. Some understated earrings would do it imo

i think you really must wear either sheer blk or fishnets in keeping with the theme...either shoe would work, really...
i feel leek the blk is good cause the higher heel is more 'glam'...
but the other is more retro...

the only jwlry that i migh add is a brooch of some sort...
but i guess you could do pearls...

I have a free choice costume party coming up. Which is just annoying for me; I need some parameters!

However, a kind of theme is emerging between couples; one coming as ballroom dancers, all fake tan and body stockings and the other as bull fighter and flamenco dancer.

I think couply ones are a bit cheesy. My man wants to come as a crack-head a la Dave Chappelle. I think that might be a bit edgy. I don't know if Scandinavians are ready for that look.
On the other hand, I could crack myself up too and then we could be Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston!

Other dancey couples? I always wonder if we should be limited by ethnicity (african american and bi-racial) or just do whatever we want. I suppose it depends on whether you are trying to be authentic, or just have a laugh.

Hmm I have to think about this a bit more...but I definitely don't think you need be limited by ethnicity. Else how about Ike and Tina Turner? Dunno how one would do Ike (wear boxing gloves? ) But Tina would be fun!

i tried to convince my hubby to dress up as viktor + rolf for halloween...
they are always so wonderful together...
better as a pair than individuals, i.m.o....

did not work this year... perhaps next...
