Help With What to Wear to a Costume or Themed Party

I need help here. I have to be at a Recording Studio opening private party thingie Monday night. I have no idea what to wear. I spent all last weekend looking and found nothing. Everything out is either super sexy and made for a size 2 (I'm more like a 10) or looks like it's made for a mother of the bride (I'm almost 40). Is there anything in between??? It's a business thing so I don't want anything sexy but it's in the music biz so I need something dressy and edgy without looking like I'm trying too hard. Did that make sense??? LMAO If I can't find anything this weekend I have a nice pair of black evening pants I can pair with a black cashmere sweater and add some jewelry, strappy sandals, and a great bag. Any suggestions???

90's fashion advice needed!

Hey!!

What was big in fashion during the 90's? I have a costume party to go to in the new year and I want to look cool but still be in theme :p you know how it is LOL!!

Post pics if you can!:flower:

Chunky ankle boots in like brown suede paired with a hideous oversized floral floorlength sleeved dress, curly brown hair in a ponytail with a wide brimmed hat toss a gerbera daisy in there too...Accessorize with a backpack...

One word: Gucci

I'd go with the heroin chic look, all black, tight fitting pants, tube top, black jacket maybe in leather, pointy-toed stiletto, smudged eyeshadow and slicked back hair.......

Or if that isn't really you, you could do something more like this....

black minidress or black cardigan (worn unbuttoned halfway) and miniskirt with the pointy toed pumps or maybe a knee high boot, tawny lipstick, contoured cheeks, and you could wear it with blown out, bouncy tousled hair like this and throw on some big plastic Jackie-O sunglasses.

I'd say any of these looks would be more unique because most people would go right for the whole grunge look of flannel, ripped jeans and Doc Martins, so you'd stand out more and chances are you have most of these pieces in your wardrobe already.

Hope that was helpful

Or if you're looking for something more fun, go for animal prints.

that reminds me of that tv show Blossom.

I guess there were many different looks during the 1990s - the one that comes to my mind first is that of minimalism, eg. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy - all black sleekness, no accessories, minimal makeup, stick-straight blond hair!

80ies Party

i'm not sure if this is the right category for my question so if not, mods feel free to move it. i'm going to a themed new year's party and the theme is "party like it's 1985", so everybody has to dress up 80ies-style. i have no idea what to wear, since i was 2 in 1985 and not really interested in fashion ^_^
any ideas??

thanks in advance, i appreciate it!

if you're dressing up like it's a decade past, you simply HAVE to do something funny - dressing in gucci or versace won't work. it's not funny enough. i'd say: grunge, hammer pants, oversizes sweaters (not in the good way) or grunge. go grunge. it's funnier.

*JJ* - be an 80's aerobic instructor!!!! Check out the cideo for "Call on me" by Eric Prydz and do a mild version of that! :D :D :D :D

you can see it here i think http://www.kontraband.com/show/show.asp?ID=1577
it's a horrible song but for me the video is soooo 80's.. think BIG hair, leg warmers, pastel colour. especially look at the hair and makeup (i'm, so not telling youu to go out dressed in a thong body!
