Help With What to Wear to a Costume or Themed Party

Maybe we should make an official "Help me dress up for _____ occasion?" what do you think? :flower:

None taken, Tott  I get the impression that's what many people outside of America think... and, sadly, there's alot of validity to it :ninja:

That's a good idea, Kimkhuu :flower: What do you guys think of renaming this one?

No offence meant to you Americans, but that's the image I have of the US, apart from a few stylish "deviants" from the norm...

Oh dear ...

Btw, spelling tip :ninja: The fuchsia was named after German botanist Leonhard Fuchs. ;) :flower:

yes-i should have remembered that...
since in italian it is pronounced fyook-sia....
thanks for the reminder ta-ta...

why not just merge this into 'does this work'...?

frankly...
i don't think the mega thread really works when one person needs advice...
it often gets lost or overlooked...
or combined with another person's issue...
and you just don't get the input you need...

it's not like personal style gets so much action that we couldn't afford the individual threads which could be merged later on, no?..
or is that too much trouble for the mods?...

i just think it's a very useful and valuable asset in the community to be able to ask these sorts of individual questions about personal style...

i mean....
it is personal style...
so it feels wrong to bunch it together somehow, imo...
my two cents...

i have a 'vegas' party to go to in a few weeks...what is vegas style anyway?
Vegas style is extremely trashy and tacky, sounds like a Versace show but more

Big hair, collagen lips, heavy lipliner and glitter and all in all really flashy. Im not sure if there is a "classy" vegas look...:innocent:

^ maybe one could get a more classy look by going classic Vegas, Rat Pack days ...

yes tott, me too. My friend just got married in Vegas....how tacky? ta-ta no Vegas is prob not me.... I am thinking we should have a theme party thread and i can post pics of what i am thinking

I am going to a Vegas themed party soon.

I am thinking I'll wear my vintage silk dress with a big bow on the back & a train type thing coming out of the bow. Its lovely but its ivory with brown and black big flowers on it (un peu marni). Is this ok for Vegas ? what shoes/tights? I need to modern it up a bit....but what colours? I think black will be too heavy. Thinking terry de havilland style shoes.....

what about this kind of shoe? maybe i want sth a bit more 'fun' though

vegas?...
i love that dress but it's more deauville than vegas imo...
and if you want to 'modern-ize' the dress...
then why are you looking at vintage repro shoes...?!......

you're funny!!...
what's the matter?...
is your showgirl costume out to the cleaners?...
:innocent:...

Helena if I was you I'd indulge in the horror of it all..the glitter, the sequins, the boa feathers, the works..Vegas isn't elegant - but it can be fun...I have a carnival head piece with feathers and the works I can borrow you.. ;)

hanne hanne hanne...
what else do you have in that closet of yours???...

:brows:...

woohoo!!!....:woot:...
helena...maybe hanne will lend you hers...:flower:

I fear Helena would feel severely underdressed..and it's been worn to pieces - Caribbean carnivals is a hard physical endeavor

On the "bright" side of Vegas, Elaine Wynn is very bright, lovely, stylish, capable, and down to earth ... maybe you could take her as your role model ^_^ :flower:

i have to go to another party tonight....
a charity benefit thing...
the theme is the 'JAZZ AGE'...

i think there will be a live orchestra...
but i doubt anyone will go in 'period' costume...
and i don't think the invite said blk tie...

i don't know what to wear...
i think this will be a very different crowd than i am used to...
not really my scene...
i think that no matter what i do...i am going to stand out in the crowd...
and maybe not in such a good way, i don't know...

what do those girls who wear jeans everyday wear when they have to put on a dress...??

probably something really sexy, and colourful, right?...:ermm:...

ugh...that is SO NOT me...:yuk:...

any ideas people?...
thanks...:flower:

i might just wear the same thing i wore last party......

^ Well, the last outfit would certainly work :flower:

I think of flappers when I think 'Jazz Age'. Do you have any skirts or dresses with fringe? Here are some pics for inspirations. I just love the 20s
