Why does 'H&M' and 'S/S' get changed into small letters in the title?

RETRO REVIVAL AT H&M FOR SPRING

Just as fashion was beginning to look forwards, designers are taking another look back in time. This season, it’s 50s, 60s and 70s nostalgia that inspire, which means cleaner and more refined lines, smart looks and plenty of great fashion pieces. And spring’s retro revival really is just about inspiration. Shapes are different now, as well as fabrics and colours. But the origins of sleek and elegant couture are highly evident.
'We’re not ready to let go of 20th century fashion yet. There is still so much to explore. This season’s historic couture inspiration is all about looking attractive; chic, sweet, sexy - and comfortable. Silhouettes are looser with more volume, even the sharper tailored pieces,' says H&M’s head of design Margareta van den Bosch.

RETRO INSPIRED STYLES

1950s retro is all about feminine ballroom beauties in dresses, pencil skirts, blouses and knits. And men are equally masculine in suits, shirts, sporty knits, denim and lumber jackets. For more casual or younger looks, there are Rockabilly classics like turned up jeans, checked shirts, T-shirts and college cotton, for both women and men.

1960s looks are more about legendary couture shapes and clean lines. Garments like boxy jackets, tulip skirts, slim slacks, shift dresses and collarless coats are important for ladies, and neat suits, shirts, classic knitwear, trench coats and macs are key pieces for men.

1970s style means smart, sexy and elegant. For women, the focus is on hips and neckline and clothes are slightly slimmer but never tight. Jersey shirts and dresses are important, as are long and wide trousers, blazers and fine knitwear. Some romanticism is still evident with wide and floaty dresses and couture blouses with large prints. For men, there are slim blazers with wide lapels, hip-hugging trousers and slim shirts. Knitwear is classic.

COLOURS
Colours are soft and neutral or bright retro shades. White and navy are strong for some looks, while cold pastels are key to others.

PATTERNS
Patterns are stripes, gingham checks and polka dots, mini prints or large romantic florals.

MATERIALS
Cotton fabrics, sweatshirt material, washed velour, silk satin, chiffon and fine wool.

ACCESSORIES
Handbags and shoulder bags, sunglasses, bangles, Creole earrings, couture scarves, fine knit scarves.

thanks for posting pics...

also a "full" line of shoes (whatever that means) is going to be rolled out for spring i read.

last spring, i didnt buy a single thing at H&M...this looks a bit better.

At first glance, I'm not liking much of it.. A couple of the dresses look nice, and the short coats could work.

Here's a closer look at a few other pieces. The first S/S items will apparently show up in stores a few weeks from now (in Sweden, at least).

I must have that sleeveless blue dress. H&M seem to look to the 50s almost every year though at least once.

i love the grey cardigan paired with lighter tshirt and white vermudas
and womenswear looks gorgeous!!! wish i could wear those haha.. kidding

Wow, I knew a shoe line was only a matter of time for H&M...I bought some once from them, adorable model and cheap as free  You always wonder about the quality but with H&M you at least have the guarantee that it'll be cute and very affordable ^_^

I'm liking the green raincoat on the last picture! I haven't really taken a good look at the rest of the collection but it looks okay IMO.

I wonder how the shoes will look like! I like the pictures, the clothes looks nice but it's mostly not my style... I think it's a little hard to tell how the clothes look irl, I never plan what to buy from H&M before I goi there.

Thanks for posting :flower:

I quite like it and it's the first time I can say it looking at pictures of H&M's collection. It's nothing fresh, I believe we already got used to such shapes and designs this summer, but I believe this time I'll find there something for me. This Summer/Fall I didn't buy one thing in H&M, it was all so boring and low-quality...

Some of the Sixties style coats are nice, but overall, this either seems bland or horrible. From some clothes you can really see they are done in a cheap factory, although I do think stylish clothing does not have to be expensive. I'm not very excited about the shoe collection either. The examples worn with the outfits look plain cheap versions of the ones seen in designer collections. I can't get any "vibe" from this collection; all of the pieces seem to not have any connection with each other, there is not a theme, its a potpourri of different eras and trends, and it does not look good.

Shoes by H&M in general sounds bad. H&M makes lousy accessories, and the shoes they have been selling there have been awful.

I really want to like this brand, but their stuff looks good only on pictures. Whenever I go to the store I can't find a single thing I like and besides, the fabrics look so cheap so even if I like the design I can't buy the piece because I'm afraid it'll tear. It's not working for me :(

Some of it is very Chloé. Can't wait :D
I'm in love with the white coat and the high waisted shorts and jeans. And the khaki jumpsuit!
The men's sandals aren't too bad, I wish they would fit me.

^^ I understand you...I do not find any quality in their clothes, and to be honest, the shopping experience at one of their stores is awful. Too many clothes in too full racks, too many screaming teens, too many ripped / dirty garments, too long lines for changing rooms...I can buy basic t-shirts from there, but that is about all. It ruins the experience of clothes and shopping for me, it is as going to a supermarket. Even if you saw something nice in their ads, you can never find it, because the shop is too full and disorganized! If you do find it, the material looks cheap or there's a detail you didn't notice and don't like.

There's a few things I like... I like the short coats quite a bit. An H&M is going into my local mall (Stamford, CT), and I CAN'T WAIT! :woot:

I like it. especially the coats. The green coat in the last pic. :woot: It shall be mine.!

The only thing I really don't like is the prints, they seem somewhat boho esque.

IM not sure im liking it .. its a bit girly girly for my style and doesnt have the usual quirkyness of h&m but i like it ... just probally wouldnt wear it imho x
