the Vogue Paris editorial is one of the best they've done in months ...

Do the women wear this? http://www.raggedmag.com/images/uploads/v18_thumb.jpg
I've seen only men in it (the blue)..
Does it have a name..?

Also: is it a rule that the headcover must always be black?

in France, you can spot different headcover colors. but they are rarely "decorated".

you're welcome

Hey it seems we call it the same thing in English.

wikipedia.org

A cheche is a garment worn by the Tuareg people over their heads and necks to protect themselves from the wind and sand[1]. It usually has many layers that cover the head and it drapes down to loosely cover the neck. It is also worn by some French people as a scarf.
Another name for the Cheche is the tagelmust.
I think it's funny(?) they add this part about the French people

I guess it depends on the culture what colour and what can be added to it. In the city here I've seen a family, they were all wearing pink and a faded army green. They were all wearing the same fabric. In a show I watched about a trip to Iran, everyone was in black. There was only one woman in reddish-brown --she and along with her (male) friend, they were clearly fashion students :D

Here's her outfit (drawn by gius lol). It was a voluminous 'hood' with gathers all around it, part of her jacket or dress.. can't remember correctly. I can't get the colour right -it was a very pretty shade of brown and such an interesting garment; and her hair was bleached and permed.

thank you so much for posting that guide! i'm trying to learn, but it is hard to differentiate between the ways of wearing headscarves bc i'm not used to seeing them all the time

I didn't know they called that particular style al-amira!

I was looking through some old news articles and came across these pictures of Queen Elizabeth and Turkey's First Lady Hayrunnisa Gul during the Queen's visit to Turkey. And then I started looking for more images, and the end result is a teeny tiny (because I got distracted by other things) picspam of Hayrunnisa Gul. I really dig what she has going on with her scarf in the second picture.

Apologies if the pictures come out too large. The laptop and I were having some issues. *kicks computer in the face*

I've been living in the UAE for the past 4 months and have such an appreciation for really beautiful hijabs and abayas. Some of the work that goes into them is just STUNNING.
