not sure ifit's been mentioned, but i think Diane Pernet's style is like a slightly more western interpretation of this look

the point of the hijab is modesty and also equality. men and women both have to dress modestly according to the Qu'ran. wearing makeup or having an extravagant-looking hijab or abaya seems to go directly against the whole purpose of parda (or covering up in the name of religion). the point is to not to show wealth or attract attention. therefore, even though this thread is fascinating and beautiful at times i still feel that it is wrong to look too glamourous if you are performing parda as it defeats the purpose

maybe i'm being naiive, but i thought that it was being referred to as Hijab CHIC meant it was an aesthetic, and much like many aesthetic elements, it is derivative of a certain thing, not necessarily upholding the the traditions the style, but more of a reference to it?
some of the posts, as i read through, have seemed a little disgruntled that the stylistic traditions are not being upheld......(tone is hard to read off the internet though..so i could be reading it wrong)

its not about tradition, you can wear a hijab however you want to but it shouldnt be something that draws attention to you as that is hypocritical because of the reasons for wearing one. i admit that some of these innovations are really exciting but it doesnt seem right to make a hijab into something ostenatious and to wear one with fitted, tight clothing. (e.g. shieka moza)
