I feel like, for better or worse, this is going to be a very talked-about film generally, and as it's fashion-focused, deserves its own thread. New trailer released today has shots of Tom Ford, Grace Jones, and Lagerfeld. Ridley Scott is wildly inconsistent and it's hard to gauge if this is going to actually be a quality film that gets awards attention or if it will just be flashy and fun and a pop-culture moment, or if it will flop. I have high hopes, but the Jared Leto casting is already a huge red flag. Aesthetically, I'm a bit disappointed by the trailer(s). I loved the leaked set photos, but it looks like Ridley is washing it all over with his favored gloomy palette.

I hope it is good. A part of me is skeptical bc i feel like it's gonna end up being about Lady Gaga wearing different outfits and talking in an accent. Like some Ryan Murphy "I'm gonna give the gays everything they want" type thing. It seems a lot of newer movies and shows are heavily focused on visuals like the cast/set and their clothes/hair/makeup in an effort to create a pop culture moment instead of actually telling a story. We shall see!

I kind of hope it *is* that, both because Lady Gaga is everything this gay wants and also because I think that's the movie's best shot at lasting relevancy. If it's got a really great central performance and lots of memorable looks and moments and lines from Gaga, it will be more than a flash in the pan. I mean of course I hope it's more than just a showcase and the entire film is great, but I have my doubts about that, so I'm hoping they just leaned into the Gaga of it all. I do think this will do really solid numbers at the box office, especially considering it's an adult drama with no action.

Having now seen this, I'm going to go ahead and say if Gaga doesn't take home the Oscar I will riot in the streets and possibly loot the Trump Tower Gucci store location.

Bloody brilliant. Downloaded House of Gucci last night, after being unable to get to the cinema to watch it and it was 100%, without a shadow of a doubt, worth the wait.

Gaga was superb, deserves every bit of applause for being completely committed to the role of Patrizia Reggiani. The storytelling, costumes and sets were all executed perfectly - I loved every last detail from start to ending credits (even right down the soundtrack).

Take your negatively and bad takes elsewhere, the little monsters are in mourning. :P

I think the reason she didn’t get a nomination is because she wanted it too badly and over campaigned, especially in the past couple of weeks. Same for Jennifer Hudson. Meanwhile Kristen Stewart was like “I don’t give a f*** about Oscars” and got one and Olivia Coleman who does next to no campaigning got one.

^ she was already in Kate Bosworth mode: dressing ‘timelessly’ for her big win lol. I wish I was more mature and it didn’t crack me up but MWAHA

She’s insufferable as a singer with her tragically pedestrian music but she really takes it all to a different level as an actress. Also, didn’t 50 cents and The Rock just switched for a more dignified name when wanting to be taken seriously as actors? go Germanotta or whatever her name is, you might finally score that nomination.

I’m not sure I’ll ever take the time needed to watch this, not interested in the story and I was ‘friends’ with an Italian dude who auditioned for this and they were kind of explicitly turning down Italians lol, like ‘yeah I know it’s an Italian story but we’re NOT looking for Italians’.. I mean yeah you’re looking for actors and I don’t agree with the understanding of ‘acting’ that suggests only someone with autism can play an autistic person, but still.. odd to look so hard and invest on cultural characteristics that some already possess. Also I don’t know why I’m advocating for jUsTIcE fOr iTaLiAn aCtOrS~ but here we are..

Feel bad for Gaga. I have not seen the movie and don't know if she "deserved" it, but she did really well all season - NYFC win and the only actress to get nominated by the CC, globes, SAG and BAFTA. She's already an Oscar winner and a nominee for Best Actress, so she'll be ok (she would be otherwise too lol), but I'm sure she really wanted this.

Hate to be the stereotypical gay rushing to defend Gaga, but duty calls and I am who I am.

Gaga already has an Oscar for Best Song, but she also has additional Oscar nominations - one of which I think she came quite close to winning, for Best Actress for A Star is Born, her first lead role in a film. That she very nearly scored another nomination for her second lead role in a film is impressive and had she done so, I think it would've actually been unprecedented in the century of Hollywood history. Also, though the Oscars are obviously the most prestigious, she does have BAFTA and SAG nominations as well as multiple other critics groups nominations for House of Gucci. Yes, her apparent desperation for a nomination is easy to laugh off and I do think it's a turn off for her peers, but that doesn't diminish her work, which was impressive. I know performances are largely subjective, but her accent actually IS very close to the real accent of the woman she played and both critics and thousands of her fellow actors did nominate her for best performance, so that's about as objective a stamp of quality as a performance can receive. Her performance is the reason the film was even in the conversation for Awards this year, despite her being in the film with far more seasoned actors like Irons, Pacino, Hayek, Driver, etc.

I had stop and watch it later several times to make it through, but definitely have a look because in all fairness… everyone was awful and absolutely unlikeable— not just her. Jared was the most obnoxiously cartoony but obviously pining for Academy validation with such a silly performance. Coming from Ridley, I didn’t expect such subpar direction, cinematography and score that belongs in a 90s made-for-tv miniseries. The acting is unfunny, comedy-sketch trolling of Italians on the level of a SNL skit. And all this wouldn’t be so bad as camp if the movie had any semblance of energy, wit and charm. It’s so sluggish and humourless; and Stefani’s consistently delayed timing reaction is so off-putting. She’s always just a moment off; why was this not immediately fixed by Ridley???

And since we’re on The Fashion Spot, the fashion show scenes are on the level of Lifetime Channel’s low-budget production. It’s shocking that such cheap-looking scenes came from a major motion picture, let alone Ridley. He’s lost it as a director— but The Last Duel was solid. He didn’t seem to give a fcuk with this. BTW, she obviously didn’t give a fcuk since she didn’t bother to read Patrizia’s book nor talk to her. She apparently played Patrizia the way that she felt was “right”… WTF, the real woman is still alive and her life is not up to your shallow interpretation, lady…She’s so indeed insufferable.

(Glad Tom didn’t want anything to do with this— and LOL @ the guy that was supposed to be him but looks just like Jared Leto.)

What a tonally strange movie. It was fun to watch, but idiotic. It's obvious that Ridley Scott just wanted to make a "fun" movie, lol. Scott needed to lean into camp more, but he's not the director to do that. Two of my favorite scenery chewers were cast: Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons.

Not sure that I understand the outrage people have for Lady Gaga not being nominated for an Academy Award. I don't get it. Her performance was fine, not great. On the other hand, I will be rooting for Jared Leto to get his Razzie this year.

Overall, I agree with Tom Ford's summation of the film: "Was it a farce or a gripping tale of greed? I often laughed out loud, but was I supposed to?”

Gaga was trying too hard, mostly her fake Italian accent. Jared was no better.

I tried watching it last week for the clothes - I mean, this is a big budget motion picture about Gucci? -but even those were disappointing.

I'm afraid that I will also be disappointed, so I have not watched this movie yet
