How Did You Get Interested In Fashion?

cutting up old vogue magazines which belonged to my sister and mam
I would not dare cut up vogue now

I've always subscribed to and bought many of the fashion magazines out there, but my friend really got me into it by sharing her favorite models and fashion lines with me. Then I got more and more into it by visiting fashion blogs, watching fashion shows on youtube and podcasts, and involving myself in forums like tFS. :]

Magazines
Models/Celebrities
Hong Kong
Red Carpet previews
Runway shows
and lately, fashion forums and blogs

i take my magazines apart at the end at the binding so i get perfect sheets of the pages instead of tearing them and put my favorites in sheet protectors and then put them all in a binder. i have binders for fashion, beauty, advertisements, style, etc.

I'm not a hundred per cent shure really. But I DO know what my first encounter with FASHION (not just "oh, I like this sweater"). It was at the tender age of... I dunno, but I was a young teenage goth, still with some heavy/black metal undertones (yeah, can you imagine? You shouldn't). I saw a copy of i-D (the horror issue) and thought "oooh, looks WICKED! Isn't that Manson?" - and went over and flipped through it, and just thought "what? It's just a bunch of clothes!? Yuck" and put it down.
I think it must have stuck in my subconciousness though, because when I grew out of that phase and discovered that I think I was interested in clothes, i-D was the first mag I picked up, and my favorite to this day

I've always had an interest in fashion as long as I can remember, ever since I was a little girl. I used to draw my own "fashion magazines" and design clothes. I always felt like a bit of an ugly duckling when I was little, and I wanted to create something beautiful, so I would draw pretty ladies in hats and heels and dresses. I also made collages of models and clothes.

I've always loved fashion, since I was around 4-5, I'd relish watching the gowns worn by celebrities at award shows. It just grew from there..

When I was very little I would draw dresses and fashion sketches (to the best of my ability) in magic marker and was fascinated by clothes, my sister's, my Barbie doll's, whoever...I would get vintage Vogue magazines from estate sales and look them over a dozen times. I started dressing punk when I was younger and made my own jeans and t-shirts...after I stopped that, I cut off all my hair and went back to collecting 500 page fashion magazines and trying to obtain any piece of designer clothing I could.

My best fashion finds...a Miu Miu silk blouse for 3 dollars from a basement flea market in the fashion district of NYC...my mom gave me (never worn) vintage Dior underwear...and whenever a designer does a collection for a chain store I go crazy over it. I loved Proenza Schouler, Luella, and Tara Jarmon for Target.

I went to fashion class for two semesters in high school and dropped out after getting the best grades of anyone in the class. I tried to go towards general art studies but I find myself still wanting to be in fashion...

I guess from my mom in childhood. She tryed to buy for me bright clothes and took care about my appearance. Also maybe because me parents are tailors, i always was watching the process of making clothes. I liked to took clothes of my mom from wardrobe and to wear myself near mirror:flower:then i started to be a tailor. As tailor i should always look good to make clients look at me and want something new for them:blush:

My mother was a model, and I always idolised her, but when I was a kid we were always very very poor, so much so we had a falling apart rotting kitchen and couldn't pay bills. However, my mother always would say that if I was going to spend money, I should spend it on dior make up, and classic cuts on clothing. I remember at school being bullied on mufti day because I only had hand me downs from older girls in my mums religion, so when I got older I was determined I would have items of beauty. I would buy magazines and collect pictures of stuff I loved, just high street things, but my mother would take me to see aquascutum, dior, burberry, and suddenly my tastes were much higher end. Sadly my budget isn't, and I'm in a quite a bit of debt, but beautiful clothes give me shivers and happiness, and I can only get that from fashion, where I don't get that same thrill from music so much these days. I am in love with fashion!

My mom had subscriptions to a lot of fashion magazines so I used to always look at them.
I used to always draw different kinds of outfits.

i liked watching sienna miller circa 2004. got interested in her clothes. started going to H&M and looked up to things. and then it just came.. models.. weight issues.. first balenciaga motorcycle bag.. and now i am immensely interested in everything regarding beauty.. fashion.. and so on.

also. i happened to become a proud member of tfs community.

all credit goes to my mom. she was a designer in korea and basically quit when she married my dad and immigrated to the states. she was always obsessed w/fashion and since i could hold a pencil, we would sketch together. she always emphasized the importance of clothes and looking and feeling good and always being presentable. she's literally the korean emily post. and i owe it to her for becoming a designer myself.

It was at the age of eighteen as I was asking myself: How do you want to look like as a man and what style fits you best? From that point on I started asking myself about idols and icons.

I was always interested in fashion from a distance...but then it was seeing Daria on the cover of British Vogue supplement maybe 3 years ago,in purple D&G (with the neck tie...)Anyway,I remember seeing her presence on the catwalk, even in print and being astounded. I was a convert to fashion and fashion magazines from that day forward ^_^

My introduction to fashion is very vivid and specific in my memory.

Gwen Stefani's first solo single, "What You Waiting For?" had just come out and I was obsessed with it. So one day I was watching MTV and the next show was going to be their Making of the Music Video show, and it was for "What You Waiting For?" and I was so excited because it was also the world premier of the video.

So I was glued to the TV because the production of the music video was a visual feast. In it, she wears two stunning dresses. I was so in love with those two dresses. Gwen mentioned they were Dior Couture.

These were the two dresses

So, after the show ended, I quickly went online, searched 'Dior,' went to the website, and found the pictures and the video of Dior Haute Couture Fall/ Winter 2004 (which is the collection the two dresses Gwen wore were from) and I must have watched that video hundreds of times.

The rest is history. So, in a way, I owe everything to Gwen Stefani!

well  my mum always loved these dumb mags like glamour, but i didn't give a sh*t about them. then in march of 2006 i accidentally looked in one and saw a gorgeous redhead, and that she was the model of the year. time passed by, and we went on holiday with friends. my bestie bought a mag on the beach and started to talk about her fave model... it was the same redhead called lily cole  i was like, i know her and i think she is gorgeous too, so she said she would show me some sites about fashion, i might like them. then she invited me to tfs and the rest is history

When I was like 7 or something I remember going to Europe with my Mom 'cuz she was part of the Fashion Accessories Expo to meet potential buyers. The first place we went to was Venice and I remember sitting at our booth kinda annoyed because there were a lot of people and it was noisy and the smell of the canals were awfully strong. I did however enjoy looking at the strange yet wonderful clothes the people wore. I guess that was when I started to get interested in fashion but I started to truly appreciate fashion when my sister would watch Style with Elsa Klensch. I wanted to watch cartoons but I had to wait my turn on the TV and so I ended up watching the show as well...
