I don't think it's entirely fair to judge this in absence of any detail shots, because there's invariably more going on than meets the eye...I understand what you mean, though. Chalayan did say in a recent interview that, although he started the men's line due to high demand, he didn't particularly like seeing men in designer clothing. Explains a lot, no?

Personally I love this collection, and his menswear in general - it's like a long cool drink of water. But you knew I would say that, didn't you.

For spring 2007, Hussein Chalayan managed to turn one of his typically complex concepts into some appealingly real clothes. His collection was untitled this time, perhaps because no single phrase could do justice to the genesis of these garments, which was apparently some all-encompassing research into the evolution of fashion over the past century.

What that meant in practice was a range of iconic items reevaluated, even recombined. A biker jacket was fused with a baseball jacket, and the resulting mutant, made up in navy gabardine, looked like the perfect blouson. A sweatshirt was given the sleeves of a business shirt. Another shirt had a little watch pocket, like a jacket does.

Technology inserted itself as latex strips on the arm of a white T-shirt, or as a dip for the hem of organic Japanese denims, or as a trim on a trenchcoat. Though not necessarily groundbreaking, these details advertised Chalayan's knack for adding some "fashion" interest to basics, altering them just enough to make them subtly desirable.

I know, I know - I am positive there will be much more than meets the eye. The thing is, everything that Tim Blank described is what Hussein has been doing for the past 2 years, pretty much word for word .

I wonder if he meant by "designer clothing" the stuff that Gucci turns out. Or at least I hope he meant that.

<edit> I went to catwalking.com, but they don't have this collection. They usually have much better pictures.

Kind of plain. The one thing I like is the volume of the tops. They are not form fitting, but a bit looser, and that is kind of nice looking.

As always with Hussein's menswear.. he has some great ideas; the muted colour palette, the relaxed and loose silhouette...

but when he tries to bring those elements together.. it just doesn't work.. it turns out very boring, and perhaps too ordinary.

droog,that's exactly in the same vein as I recall hearing from him too when he debuted the line. Basically he wants the collection to have an ordinary connotation but good quality.

I think by designer,he probably means in general. Because judging by how he dresses himself,he doesn't take a liking to any of it whatsoever.

It looks like it might be nice but overall not really my cuppa.

I saw this line in store, the clothes look simple in details, but with nice fabric, but the price...U can get sth similar from other non-designer brands, cheaper!
But don't be mistaken, I love his earlier collections for Femme with concepts.
