Hyped Up Designers/outfits

Yikes! We all are going to end up wearing:
A. leaves
B. vintage

PS. I appreciate that no one has touched my beloved Lee.

 No darling, there are just too many designers out there to expect an outcome like that.

I'm surprised, actually, someone mentioned Chalayan because he and McQueen along with Viktor & Rolf have done very good things,as far as raising mainstream fashion's attention,to avant-garde. Not to mention, they are good designers.

2nd! And Yamamoto?! If there is anyone that can sculpt, it's him.

i am surprised no one has mentioned chanel...you cannot open a magazine without seeing the quilted bag, the tweedy coat, pictures from the runway, or that TRENCH over and over and over
I totally agree about that Chanel stuff - especially the long Trench coat - surely its just not very nice? & I don't really understand the Chanel bag that looks like a recod either - is that not just a complete gimmick? Does it look nice? Sometimes I find it really difficult to be objective about fashion when you are constantly being 'fed' an opinion by fashion magazines. Sometimes its good not to read them at all & just to look at the collections almost in a vacuum from all the 'baggage' magazines promote.

Well, he could be put into the hyped catagory, but the thing is, his hype is grounded in something worth praising.

I'm probably going to H*ll for this, but I think Louis Vuitton is very overrated. I do admire that they work extremely hard to perfect their bags and stuff, but I still think the bags are simply fugly sometimes.
Except for the L'ingenieux :)

Who else who else...
- Girbaud
- Vera Wang (just haven't found anything I like)
- Some of the funkier Dior collections - Rasta ick

I really can't think of more right now.. brain fart.

A few that I love:
Chanel
Marc Jacobs
Betsey Johnson
Dior

i totally agree w/ almost all of the aforementioned. it makes me feel bad for people who are interesting and get relatively little press, like derek lam and sophia kokosalaki.

Zac Posens and Proenza Schouler. I think their dud S/S 05 collections shows how far their talent can really stretch.

Dior is overhyped. I think it is due to that the runway shows are amazing but the actually clothes in the showroom is boring and many times tacky. I mean there were some amazing things in this fall's collection but you see NONE of it.

I am going to go ahead and say Yamamoto is overhyped. He is big for being unconventional and progressive but really his clothes just aren't that great. You say he can sculpt but personally I think his peers Rei Kawakubo, Issey Miyake, and Naoki Takizawa produce better clothes.

My Collage :P

Prada:  I don't find her designs at all original or interesting, or indeed that impressive.  A lot of her stuff from about 5-6 years ago looked like it was cut from 1960s Simplicity patterns, and while I am a large fan of 1960s Simplicity patterns, I cannot admore something that I could just as easily make at home.  Her current lines fail to knock me out, too.  I think she shops at J. Crew on her days off.  Nice enough, classic, but what's the big old deal?

Baby Phat :yuk: , can we say glorified hooker garments? I mean, who is her muse, herself? She is beyond obnoxious and after seeing her "ad campaign" I hate her all the more. What's the message she's contributing to the fashion world, if you have money, you're a designer?

Hedi Slimane, as someone else said, yes he's talented but I mean come on, he's not completely revolutionizing men's fashion. Mabye it has to do with Karl's soft spot for him. :innocent:

Heatherette, I didn't say anything in my first post but hey, I might as well join the crowd. First, what woman in her right (or sober) mind would ever wear anything they create. Second, does it seem like they take ugly prom dresses from the 80's, cut and shred, and then put it on a catwalk? And finally, I am extremely tolerant of alternative lifestyles but when your muses are a Barbie-esque science project and a spoiled little putana of an heiress, you're askin for it :order: . (The muses in question are Paris Hilton and Amanda Lepore, just for those who were left unsure)
