Hyped Up Designers/outfits

I honestl am soooo sick of constantly hearing about some of the current faves.

First and foremost, Zac Posen. I mean, yeah, he can cut well, but the clothes look totally pretensious and I cannot stand the whole "celebrity" image he's developed b/c of his famous fans.

Also, Proenza Schouler. Yes, nice clothes but come on, they're nothing totally groundbreaking like people make them sound.

Alber Elbaz, again yes, very nice clothes but I don't understand why everybody is regarding him as a kind of fashion messiah all of a sudden. I mean, back when he was at Ysl, he wasn't quite so supported, what changed?

Louis Vuitton bags  can't stand 'em. And I agree with who ever said Sex and the City style.
definitely

the 'hyped' up lines that i dislike are:

proenza schouler
dsquared
stella mccartney

I sense a Porenza Schouler/Zac Posen unanmious vote on this

Oh and HEATHERETTE!! OF COURSE!! In fact anything or anyone involving Paris Hilton as a model or some style icon, should be banished from society.

And I agree with whomever remitted Mattew Williamson. I personally, see nothing special for the amount of attention he gets. Marni does a MUCH better job at rejuvenating that sort of bohemian style. His just looks stagnant and dated.

I also forgot Hedi Slimane. Don't kill me Dior Homme fans, its nothing against his talent at all, but I think this hype is TOO MUCH for his own good. Look what's happened to Nicolas

hurrah!!!

Prada: I don't find her designs at all original or interesting, or indeed that impressive. A lot of her stuff from about 5-6 years ago looked like it was cut from 1960s Simplicity patterns, and while I am a large fan of 1960s Simplicity patterns, I cannot admore something that I could just as easily make at home. Her current lines fail to knock me out, too. I think she shops at J. Crew on her days off. Nice enough, classic, but what's the big old deal?

Vuitton. I have said it before. I don't like their stuff. Especially the logo items, but really, pretty much any of it. Stodgy, overdone, bad color combinations, clunky hardware. I fail to see the attraction.

Hilfiger. Enough said.

I am not jumping the Zac Posen hate bandwagon, though. I adore his stuff. I think he channels the spirit of Madelline Vionnet. I hope he sticks around. The lad's got talent.

Marc Jacobs, his shoes are cute but most of hsi clothes are totall vintage rip ofs

there i so many i could go on and on

versace
cavalli
mcdonald
tom ford
zac posen
prozen shouler
bhenaz sharafpor
galliano

Ok, I think I've refrained long enough, but I must add Prada, despite numerous fans of hers here. No offence. I don't think she has much talent, but whatever talent she had in the first place has been long killed by the corporate air of Prada. Sorry, but her bestsellers are these ugly urban leather sneakers with the red stripe, her uninspired, overpriced bags of dubious quality, and her plainest of the plain men's suits. I just don't see it, sorry  And the 60's and 50's rehashing that people like, she only started doing this VERY recently - and it seems to me that it's waaaay too close to Dries and Marni.

I love her Broadway store though, but that's praise to Rem Koolhaus, not her.

David Dalrymple for House Of Field  :yuk:
Julien MacDonald/Givenchy
Marc Jacobs*
Christian Dior/Galliano (Now)*
Juicy Couture*
Any style related to Gwyneth/Sharon Stone/Renee/Julia Roberts/Naomi Watts et all  :yuk: (except Kidman but she's not like totally amazing  she's just lucky she's tall and good looking) and some supermodels***
Imitation of Christ
Sean Jean    **
Chanel/Largerfeld *
Badgley Mishcka  :yuk: **

None*=hyped (non deservingly)
*Really hyped (non deservingly)
**Super hyped (non deservingly)
***Immensly hyped (non deservingly)

I also must add Sui* and Prada**. I mean Prada's great but does not deserve the acclaim and hype she's been getting.

EDIT: Also Gucci* and Yves Saint Laurent** and RL***... okay I'll stop now. :innocent: Hilfiger* also.

Ya and don't forget Behnaz the "new three" as known in some NY circles.

Ditto on Paris and Heatherette.

I agree with your extra picks in Sui and MacDonald,Igni*. And Sarafpour.

Just thought of couple others:

Alice Roi
Catherine Maladrino
As Four

Jeremy Scott, baby phat (can you even call that design  ) ,Hilfiger ,Ralph Lauren , ...

Oooooooooh, just thought of a whole bunch of others.....

Sean John, I mean, shouldn't there be even the slightest hint of talent and/or inspiration involved in design? :innocent: Beyond that, my reasons should be obvious.:furious:

Baby Phat :yuk: , can we say glorified hooker garments? I mean, who is her muse, herself? She is beyond obnoxious and after seeing her "ad campaign" I hate her all the more. What's the message she's contributing to the fashion world, if you have money, you're a designer?

Hedi Slimane, as someone else said, yes he's talented but I mean come on, he's not completely revolutionizing men's fashion. Mabye it has to do with Karl's soft spot for him. :innocent:

Zac Posen, had to mention him again cause I made the mistake of looking at his collection. I'm sorry, but his attempts at showing off his skill wind up looking horrible  and I swear if he does one more dress made of a chevron-esque pattern I will kill him. Plus the fact that, you have to wonder just how famous he would be if it weren't for his social circle.

Heatherette, I didn't say anything in my first post but hey, I might as well join the crowd. First, what woman in her right (or sober) mind would ever wear anything they create. Second, does it seem like they take ugly prom dresses from the 80's, cut and shred, and then put it on a catwalk? And finally, I am extremely tolerant of alternative lifestyles but when your muses are a Barbie-esque science project and a spoiled little putana of an heiress, you're askin for it :order: . (The muses in question are Paris Hilton and Amanda Lepore, just for those who were left unsure)

Julian MacDonald, I just don't understand why everybody loves this poor man's Gianni Versace.

Roberto Cavalli, I don't get it, yes he dresses celebrities and he's a Milan staple but do people actually think anything other then his jeans look good? It's just way too much flash, too much trash, too much of a not so good thing. :dizzy:

That's it for now, but I'll think of more.
