i-D May 2008 : Agyness Deyn

oh ok...24, 25...same thing.
Her age on her card said 19 and that was in February...
Either way, she doesnt look young.

I'll be glad when this phase passes.

I seriously hope it lasts forever and ever and ever and ever, if only for my own amusement.:lol::rolleyes:B)

If Agyness is cutting Edge, then what was Omahyra Mota?!?!?!?!

According to the world, a lesbian, even though she was married. That still makes me laugh.

I've said before, maybe the secret to the success of Agyness is that she looks like she's having fun with fashion. She's always smiling. She looks like she's having a good time whever she goes. And I'm not surprised people want a piece of that. A positive vibe appeals to a wide range of people.

And maybe its also not enough for very fashion-literate people, who want something more from the supposed model-of-the-moment.

I have to agree with tigerrouge about one of the reasons for Agyness' success (her sunny attitude). I've been fortunate enough to be able to shoot quite a lot of the big models backstage and so many of them are unfriendly (or only smile for the Vogue/Bazaar backstage photographers), so when it comes time to shoot Agyness, it truly is a breath of fresh air to be around her. I also have to say that when Agyness talks to you or smiles for the camera, you really get a sense that it's genuine and not just a forced thing that she "has" to do. So many of them do the obligatory pose just to get it over with and get back to whatever they were doing.

Just since we're on the topic of some girls that people just don't understand their appeal, Caroline Trentini is the same way :)...

Thanks for reading,

^^Thats interesting thanks for sharing and welcome to TFS Betty.
thank you Miss Dalloway! I have some catching up to do to catch up to the fashion/model obsessed folk like you (those with a very impressive number of posts)!

best,
Betty

I know this has been said many times in this thread, but Agyness . . an "ICON"!? This cover really doesn't do anything for me.

Still does not make her a good model much less an icon. That's what people object to, all the hype absolutely no substance. She may have a fantastic personality but it's the quality of a model's work i'm interested in. Just look at those covers, there's nothing there, just a girl making pathetic faces. If she's so nice she should have been a PR and leave the model work to real professionals.;)

There are some pictures of Agyness styled by Alastair McKimm here, I think they belong to this issue.
Sorry I don't have time to post them right now.

the shots look great. thanks for the link.

It does look great.
I think that to say Agyness is not a good model is far from the truth

I agree. When people talk about what a bad model she is and she can only do the "hipster" look, I automatically know they haven't actually looked at her editorial work. I've literally seen every picture posted in her thread and at the moment, she's my favorite editorial model. She has a great range of expressions and most of her work has been solid. The proportion of "hipster" work to "serious" work is not bad at all. Maybe people should, I dunno, actually LOOK at the stuff she's done! But nope, that would require actual effort!

^I agree with that so much. I think a lot of her editorial work has been really good.

the editorial is not that bad....
though i don't wanna sound like an a**hole but one pic is truly inspired by kate moss' editorial 2002 in iD.... when Agyness is topless with the CDG (?) jeans....

here is the Kate source
now i'm not saying this is a copy/paste, i repeat.... or that agyness tries hard to be the new kate moss...... it's just that it could be a source/reference or whatever..... i know some tfs-ers just get mad when we ruin their fellings about the models........... i do the same when it comes to kate.... i just thought it was funny because iD decided Agyness was their new Icon and Kate's been the one for me..... omfg all those explanations just not to be beaten by the agyness' fans or not to be misunderstood......:ninja:

^ I understand that. As I was looking at the editorial, I got the same vibe that I got from the Kate ed.

^it was photographed by mcdean and styled by edward enningful.
i have to disagree, though, because it isn't that creative actually... you can easily think about jeans and topless, and there's nothing special about her pose either...

lol totally agree.
