Some of those magazines I would consider mainstream as they are finanancially backed by a publishing house, or financier, like I-D, Self Service or Dazed. But some of the ones listed are completely indepedent and they seem to fall into two categories. Either highly stylised or hippy chic.

Has anyone seen anything that isn't quite so over the top, or hippyesque? I like Another magazine it doesn't seem to be trying so hard to make a statement, and I thought Ten wasn't bad either, but I'd really like to see something fresh that I can get into.
Actually,Self Service is completely independent. Ezra Petronio(ed-in-cheif and creative director) and Suzanne Koller(fashion direction)publish the mag through their own creative company Work in Progress.

Other good indie mags are French mag Crash and the best one of all, imo,A magazine from Antwerp. Also,Style and the Family Tunes from Berlin. There's also the new Fantastic Man men's fashion magazine from the editors of whom edit Butt magazine.
