Interview September 2016 : Willow & Jaden Smith by Steven Klein

that's it.. that's what bothers me from all these kids buying their way into modeling (this girl and the Baldwin girl are the worst offenders, closely followed by maybe Kendall).. they have this ANTM notion of "high fashion" where the Garfield expression is supposed to automatically upgrade their basic imagery into legit grounds of.. haute couture/any other cliché of oh so unattainable fashion. If they would relax and drop their "yuck" face and let their allegedly not-so-ordinary face do the job like most model-y models do, they would probably be more credible and less comic [and irritating] to look at. I honestly can't consider them, or anyone, remotely good looking in those expressions.. anyone can look slightly commanding with a permanent half repulsed half upset vibe on their face, so no..

I never noticed how much they resemble each other until now. I mean there is definitely a sibling resemblance but on the cover they could be fraternal twins. Willow is absolutely beautiful, her eyes are gorgeous! The story is done right, they are very unique kids and the images reflect that as well as the fashion component.

I do agree with the notion upthread that their dad should get a cover. It was odd that during the Suicide Squad promo he wasn't on the big men's magazines unless I mentally blocked something out.

Anywho, this looks like a promising issue so far. Interested in seeing what the designers say about the future of fashion, let's hope it doesn't involve more logo t-shirts and other such nonsense.

Great cover & editorial!

I'm sick of this obsession with young people whose relevance is having famous parents, but damn the Smith kids are so good looking. Willow is really gorgeous. Beautiful cover. The ed is quite bad though. The bored/badass faces really are irritating and make it all look very try-hard.

Beyond bored by both but gorgeous cover and great editorial. Stunning!

Love how there's so little difference in gender in this story.

Did Jaden have a growth spurt? I could swear Willow was like six inches taller than him last year?!
Anyhow, I like his modeling work here. Really focused.
And like many others, I'm completely sick of all the nepotism in the industry right now.
And I blame the photographer and editor for the one note blank stare in every photo.
Photographers are like directors on the set, they should guide the model and elicit whatever emotion they want to convey throughout the editorial.
It's like someone else said, a bad episode of ANTM.
Just think some kids today will grow up seeing the industry through this filter and celebrity modeling is what they will equate the entire industry with.
Does anyone else think these editorials would be stronger with fewer pictures? Multiple pics showing the same outfits. They should have just chosen one pic with the best showing.
The eds can look so redundant.

^^^ Stunning edit. Thank you MagFan.

These two are straight up gorgeous to look at no matter what their personality may be. I always said that if someone was smart, they’d shoot these two together for a cover— and I’m glad Fabien listened to me… LOL

But being “Interview” magazine, no doubt there will be an interview with these two. They are the perfect model for just being seen, and never never never heard. Although their brand of insufferable navel-gazing personality comes off leagues more genuine than their parents’ phoniness.

Anyway, the cover is too sullen plain Janes for my taste. Yes, I feel you... it’s so hard being this gorgeous...

We received this at my office today, and the interview is exactly what you think it would be. I didnt even start reading it in full, but just read their quotes that were in bold. Major eye roll

Great editorial though, and i love the styling

I'm curious to see the editorials with Vittoria.

For two young teenagers bringing important issues to the fore I can also find myself perplexed by their obnoxiousness. However, I'm really happy for them and this is a great cover!

The Pharrell interview will be f***ing hilarious!

And like many others, I'm completely sick of all the nepotism in the industry right now.

The fashion industry has always been about nepotism. The only difference between then & now is that it's more public thanks to social media and the "TMZ" obsession.
Remember, high fashion and everything around was created by the Haute Society & for the haute society. Chanel tried to hide her past to make it into that world.

It's all fantasy and celebrities children are the new version of that fantasy.

10 years ago, people were obsessed by the Hiltons, Richies, Niarchos, Roitfeld...etc.
Julia Roitfeld had a Tom Ford campaign, her brother walked for Dior Homme & was in a Helmut Lang campaign, Richie & Hilton had major Vogue covers..etc.

Different times, different tools but same methods & results.

Beyond bored by these two... yeah they are pretty kids but that's about it. I don't need 10 pictures of them trying to look edgy.
Thanks for posting the review TREVOFASHIONISTO, I'm really excited to see the rest of the content.

Thank you for pointing this out, and making such a great point. I never understand how people forget this, i mean Vogue was created to cover High Society, it was never just about fashion. So yeah its always been about nepotism, celebrity, fashion and privilege.

This cover, but especially the ed is fantastic! Some shots are ad campaign worthy.

Jaden and Willow's edit is somewhat repetitive, but I love a Klein x black clothes avant garde edit. Happy to see Sacai get two shots.

You can find a lot of the other ed (previews) online already. They look very good, especially Jansson's one. It's nothing new but KT's work is on point as usual :smartass:.

The review sounds very promising!! Slightly concerned about Collier Schorr, Willy Vanderperre and Gregory Harris in one issue, but otherwise everything esle (except the cover + feature!!!!) sounds good to me.

This. Couldn't agree more. It's all a little too try-hard for me.

Really, really looking forward to seeing "No Compromise", the cast sounds awesome (Willy Morsch, Vittoria, Collison, Wijnaldum, Kiki, Adwoa and last but not least Hannah Elyse and Guinevere together). Let's just hope McDean was inspired!
