Vogue Italia August 2016 : Lara Stone by Steven Klein

^they mention names every time not only if its only-photographer issues. Meisel name was on all 4 his covers this year, same in april with Weber, Lindbergh and Demarchelier

The only consistent thing that remains with this magazine is its use of quasi-English for its quite brilliant rubbish headlines.... FEEL NOW SPIRIT etc.....

But to move a cover image off centre to fit those rubbish words in a trademark rubbish layout?

Franca Genius..... Obvs

This could have been so much better if they chose a better shot with the caption STYLE & STRENGTH or the likes. hay

I remember when they released the China issue, they announced the beggining of a new era. Is pretty sad that Steven is no longer the main photographer, I don't know who to blame. The recent covers (multicovers, with the name of the photographers and models) reminds me the same concept that Franca started 10 years ago when she took L'Uomo.

Something is just not clicking behind the scenes here. Are they even trying for the non-Meisel months? Don't get me wrong, for the past few years his work has been on a steady decline. But these photographers do good work for other magazines. Why is it not translating on Italian Vogue? Again it sounds like a "behind the scenes" issue to me. Is Franca holding the reigns too tight on the non-Meisel months? I feel like no one has really been able to push through, other than Tim Walker..

Does Meisel oversee the final cover including all the visual elements such as typography, layout, and color? It's obvious how crisp and professional a Meisel cover looks when compared to the others which feature horrible drop shadows, poor color selections, and an overall poor layout. Anything other than Meisel really does look quite amateur. Someone really needs to get on that because it's not a good look.

My thoughts exactly! The layout of Meisel covers are always PERFECT. The non-Meisel ones are bad. Remember the China issue, the Smile issue, the Allure issue, and this Sports issue.... the layouts were all so bad. especially the allure issue ones. The non-Meisel issues remind me of Luomo Vogue.

It's just bad. You have Klein and Lara and that's the result? I know, it might start sounding tiring, but there is no VI magic without Meisel. I haven't liked a single cover that was created by another photographer in the last several months

her leg reminds me of Angelia's leg at the Oscar a few years ago. Anyway love it

Could be. I really would kill to find out how much of a say she had with Meisel's work for VI - from cover to edit. My guess is not much. And therein would lie the disconnect we have here. I even doubt whether these other guys are afforded the same privilege.

The current situation isn't helping because everything another photographer does will always be compared against Meisel's work. And bringing him back into the fold permanently will not help either because he's no longer in top form, so my advice is to cut the cord and let his legacy remain in peace.

I saw Lara Stone and my heart jumped a little. I'm a huge fan of Lara, always have been, this cover doesn't live up to what I was hoping to see but it is rather cool. It's striking and makes me curious to look inside. It is very high fashion.

I do not like Klein's photography on a good day, but i thought Lara could save this, but no, this cover is just immensely silly. And unfortunately Lara has seen better days as a model too.

Completely agree with this. I'm not a fan of Klein's work and as soon as I saw the title I froze because Lara doesn't do well with overly photoshoped/edited editorials. They always tend to destroy her beautiful face.

And yes, this is terrible. Not because of her face (only) but everything is so not cover material. The angle, the table (Why a table? Why???), the "emptiness",...

^thank you.
imo they chose the worst image from the foldout to be the cover...
is the editorial an homage to Avedon? specially his Versace campaigns... those are the only images I like.

I see it more like Helmut Newton. The ed is kind of contriving. I don't think it's so bad, but ain't into it either.

Thanks for the link, MagFan!
The only shot which really impress me is the one with the barbell. And it's comical in a cool way to see Lara carry those guys over her shoulder like bags of oranges. Leibovitz is obsessed with this pose, but it's almost always a man doing the carrying. The rest are all digitally manipulated, but in such an obvious and lazy way. I understand that it's supposed to be fantasy, but it doesn't translate very well. It would've worked better if Lara's expression actually resembled someone lifting approx 100kg of solid muscle!

The close-up of her erect nipples though! Either it was very chilly, or it's because of all that eye-candy....:innocent:

And I've only just realised that both US and Italian Vogue turned out sport issues for August!

Naomi´s editorial :o she should have gotten the cover imo, so fresh for her... I had to double check that indeed was her

I see it more like Helmut Newton

I was reminded of these:

Sounds lame and C-list like almost every month in VI.
