And no Sang for me. But... I DID do something a little squirrelly... ummm...

So my Raisin Work, whilst beautiful,was DRY AS THE SAHARA!!! I know I wasn't the only one who had this problem. I'd read issues of the Raisin looking akin to a 100 year old woman. So, finally, I had enough. It's one of the bags, surprisingly, that I use the most because it's dark, but the white, dry, crackly-ness was a turn-off. Thus, I found myself at the nearest sports store buying 2.99 baseball glove conditioner. Now, before everyone freaks out, it has neatsfoot oil in it, which is supposedly good for leather.

One damp Raisin work later (you have to rub it down with the damp cloth), I began to apply the oil. And let me tell you... the difference is CLEAR. Seriously. I'm letting it set right now but pics to follow. And I haven't forgotten about those Vert d'eau photos t come, either. I'll keep ya posted ladies!

Oh my goodness...I have a raisin GSH work sitting in my DIY "shop" right now! I've already used Apple Care and the Frye Cream but the wrinkly raisin is STUBBORN!!! I'm DEFINITELY going to get some glove conditioner. Thank you so much for the tip.

I'm not even sure if I want to keep or sell this work bag as I really do love a shoulder strap, but even if I sell it I want the new owner to have a great feeling bag and not feel like they have to do a ton of work on it to get it wearable. Plus I just like working on leather Can't wait to add glove conditioner to my DIY product lineup!

Baseball glove oil, now that's a good idea! Does anyone recall the kids book where the child oils his baseball mitt with oil of olay instead of baseball glove oil?? He would have been brilliant at bag conditioning brainstorming LOL!

My Sang still smells despite the LMB "bag candies." All they did was impart a cloying vanilla smell on top of the chemical smell. I did find the LMB cleaner and various conditioners (miracle shield, silk serum, botanical moisturizer) did help tone down the original odor. I also washed part of the lining of the bag with a baby detergent and I did find that to be really helpful in improving the situation. Right now my bag is greatly improved and while I can still smell *something* it's very faint and only noticeable when I stick my nose right on the bag. I'm sure that this will fade with time.

So I would not recommend bag candies to improve the smell of the leather.

FYI-I used neatsfoot oil once for something a couple of years ago..the smell of it was overwhelmingly nauseating (for me) and I wouldn't use it again..so be careful coleyx3...your raisin might look smoother from it but it might smell so much you wont want to use it
Sports fanatics probably wouldnt notice it as it's kind of a "sport equipment smell" and horse riders use it on there saddles, but on a handbag hey you might attract the baseball players in your neigborhood of Atlanta and DC!!!!...which might be fun

@ Razz: No problem, chica! I LOVE my raisin - but something had to give. Note: the bag will get darker. But heck, it's RAISIN. So the purple will deepen which I was okay with. It doesn't feel oily, but I'm letting it sit, stuffed with about five pairs of sweatpants!

@Sucre03: Thanks for the tip @ the bag candies. I'll pass on them then. I was going to put some in my arsenal just in case, but eh, I'll pass.

@baga: The smell on mine is fairly faint. I was worried about that too! But it seems okay... I'll keep ya posted though.

BTW: I was made aware via the other forum that the f/w PT GH don't have feet?

coleyx3- thats good, as i wouldn't want your raisin bag to smell like the sports equipment room of the Atl braves or the tackle room at Churchill downs...and if it did...you could always buy a box of baking soda or some charcoal tablets and put them (baking soda in the box..not loose) in the bag to absorb the odorD

Vitamin E and lanolin are also used for softening baseball gloves, BUT does not have any scent like neatsfootoil nor darken it whatsoever. i applied it twice on my raisin work and it did wonders. you can find it at your local drugstore

Sucre03 - The chemical smell will surely go away with time, there's nothing like fresh air for that. Conditioners and bag candies will just cover it imho...Maybe you could try to put it in front of a fan for about an hour like someone suggested some time ago, it may help a bit ! I did it and it worked pretty well Just be sure not to leave it there for more than an hour or the leather may get dry (I left my J's vintage jumbo in front of a fan for about 2 days and the leather texture didn't change at all, but NBF leather may be more sensitive )

razz - I can totally understand your love for your Sang GSH baby . I have one too and every time I pass *her* by my eyes get catched by such a beauty . She's like a platinum ruby/pigeon's blood ring...or a sterling silver spoon in a cup of black cherry sorbet...didn't have a sorbet by hand (nor a ruby ring ) so...

I have a question regarding GH..I wanted to enchance mine to make it more like the authentic but looking at other peoples Bals on TPF the hardware looks the same and not a deep gold like I've seen also.

Is all the gold hardware the same and it's just the pics thats making it look brighter?

The authentic GGH is DEFINTLEY darker than the NBF..but once again you would only know this if you were a BAL officinado.
I didn't realize how much either until my girlfriend was over at my apt with her authentic GGH bag, it was very noticeable when they were next to one another, so you have to ask yourself if yours will ever be in that kind of setting, and if it's that important to you, I guess you as an individual will know if it's worth it to you to "enhance"...good luck if you do.
It does not bother some members here at all... So it really is an individual call i think.

Muffintop- to be honest that light autumn color looks like a rash i once had..let alone a balenciaga color, and the GSH on the light grey bag looks very dark to me. ask for more pics of the GSH as it should pop against the bag, not blend in.

I don't think enhancing it makes it look more authentic because I think the shine is what's lacking in T&D's GGH (on some bags, not all) rather than it being a color difference. If anything, I'd say finding a way to clear coat it with something purely for shine would have the best outcome! Also, PM me for links to two TPF threads where NBF GGH bags passed as auth. I don't know when NBF's GGH started getting knocked so much but I promise you it's not that bad!!

you can have a cobbler remove all of them, if it's that important to you. it would be a cumbersome process, but it's possible.
