Istanbul Street Style

totally agree with you mimiko. When i was in Istanbul over the summer, i wanted to wear a simple sundress, but my cousin told me that it wasn't "appropriate" to wear:rolleyes: . Needless to say, i didn't wear many exciting clothes that summer.

mimiko is right in all that comments.i think we dont have that creativity in getting dressing=))

ıs there a store or boutique which sells stella mccartney in ıstanbul

This post started to become ridiculous.

I could tell you so many places you can be judged by wearing whatever but I won't bother atm.:yuk:  :yuk:

Do's and Dont's....

are there any do's and dont's, with the fashions Istanbul? and also what are the name of local trendy boutiques?

hello, this is my first post here but i have been silently following this whole forum. So this is hello.

This thread is interesting to me as I am Turkish but have lived abroad my whole life. I have a different perspective.

I go back to Istanbul every summer, and i have to disagree with mimiko..

I think there is definately a percievable street style. It is easy to miss if you actually live there but i notice it. I believe that, people dress very very good. Istanbul, in the old days as we say the Old Istanbullites, really knew how to dress and act. With the recent influx of migrants who are uneducated, this has caused what you say very bad dressed people. Anyways, in general, People understand fashion. I live on Bagdat Avenue, so i see the young people all dressed up out and about. I wouldnt call them ALL of fashionistas but they are trendy nonetheless. There is that look that is specfic to every neighborhood. The Etiler crowd, the Bagdat kids, the nisantasi folks. Cihangir and the Taksim Istiklal.

There are so many things that are only trendy in Istanbul, and not the rest of the world. Things have there phases (i.e Barbour, while right now its Abercrombie and F&M). Among the older crowd, i say just go to Armani cafe in the day, and Anjelique by night. The way people put togather clothes and accessoiries, guys and girls, do it very well. Choices of perfum are always right. Tans and skin care are perfecto. Watches and phones. Even the cars they drive, the color combos, i find are rarely ever blaring and offensive.

Alot of my foreign friends were blown away by the amount that people actually care for in how they dress and look after themselves. Here in university, all my Turkish friends are well into fashion. Ive seen things they brought from Istanbul ive never seen before, for instance Fendi sneakers/shoes. People really do spend alot of money on shopping, even the people who arent that loaded. Using the taksit system, a know a guy who has a sizeable amount of designer wear all from Beymen, with out being loaded. Alot of it has to do with the prentenious nature of life in the big city. Not to mention the fact that almost all brands make there stuff in Turkish factories, so if you know the right people you can get stuff straight from the factory for REAL cheap. Eventhough it is against the rules set by the big wigs.

Plus you can find pretty much any brand, Just Leo had Dsquared long before it blew up around the world for instance, and even if there isnt a boutique, you can to places like Planet and order specific pieces and theyll bring it for you...Now with Harvey Nichols opening along with a string of other boutiques (Dolce and Gabbana boutique within a few months) There will be even more out there... Turkish designers are getting more and more recognition not only in fashion but also in interior design furniture and cusine..

Things can only get better

Really depends on where you are.... Istanbul really has dozens of microcosms,

For instance i went to nisantasi with a "wife beater" and track pants on a Sunday once, i was staying in a hotel near by and just went for lunch without thinking....yea big mistake, i really felt uncomfortable, I felt looked down! i even tried to ask for directions from some chicks, and they acted like i was a ghost, they didnt even break stride. ...I didnt really get it back then, but now i see the picture. I wouldnt go there without something designer.

I think the main thing is never be TOO casual. Like shorts in a mall is a no no. Youll never see a guy in the club, no matter how crap a club it is, with shorts. Something common in NA. sandals and shorts and sleeveless is best left for the beach pretty much. speaking for guys.

For girls, I wouldnt go in anything too skimpy in the more traditional neighborhoods..that goes for alot of places in the world

not sure but %99 you can find it or order through the other boutiques Filiz Sahenk is bringing Alexander Mcqueen and Issey Miyake above the Gucci and Emporio. Nisantasi is really developing more and more every year.

it is definitely true.if you go to nişantaşı you can find many shops which sell the most famous designers' collection

Hi there berkg! I like reading your point of view. I aggree with you at a lot of points. :flower:

Some boutiques for jcarter;
A46 @ Nisantasi,
Bis @ Aznavur Pasaj,
Vintage stores @ Cihangir.

Some Turkish cool brands/shops you can check are MAÇKA by Ayşe & Ece Ege, Network, Ipekyol are cool and elegant, Derishow also you can check there too, has plenty of unique designs.
Last but not least Vakkorama for the latest trendy pieces and beautiful dresses. Hope it helps! :flower:

Vakkorama is defintely worth checking out. THey have so many brands from small designers and alot of what they sell becomes fashonable. I like the whole concept of the store, ir really has a good vibe to it.

Istanbul is such a stylish city.. It has it's own unique vibe which I adore.. It's very "east meets west" around here, the ethnic essences are sustained yet also modernized.. I will soon (hopefully when I get the time!) scan and attach some photos exposing the street style, and I am also willing to introduce some Turkish designers to you guys! I'm sure you'll love'em all! :))

Streetstyle in Istanbul ???
I'm from Istanbul and people dress like sh*t in ıstanbul :they don't have style.Every woman in the street has fake Louis Vuitton bag.

There are some tacky-looking one's but don't you see those kind of people in each country you visit? There can be really bad dressed women around, but they're kind of everywhere in the world.. Every culture has it's highs and lows, and I guess our people kind of gets too excited about whats "in" fashion.. and also the dress-sense really depends on where abouts you hang out.. I think that our streetstyle is quite creative, at least it reflects the cultural persona..I'm against generalisation, there are lot of different styles.. The Turkish women especially teenagers can be very creative in combining pieces, and they don't just dress as if they popped out of a catalogue or somethin.. We use a lot of accessories which kind of richens the style..The pictures posted are from celebrity mags, I'll be soon posting ones I took from the streets which might be interesting to talk about..

I was several times in Istanbul, and I liked it a lot. Actually I have plans of going again in two weeks, so anyone who lives there has any "shopping suggestions". I liked very much (I think it is a part of Osman bay or something), a street called Akmi Pecki or something like that, and a great restaurant on the corner (Nisantasi I think), the one you can enter the Bayman store. What else would you suggest?
