Honestly from the promos up until the opening skit, James was great but he just wasn't into it.

Ugh, he really wasn't. Kinda made it painful to watch after a while.

I'm wondering if they were trying to play him as the straight guy to Anne's gag girl. I mean I know he's laid back anyway and he was unusually quiet last night but it did cross my mind that perhaps that was the plan that was executed badly. I have to say too that he looked a lot bigger out of his suit than he did in it! not fat, just bigger. None of that probably made any sense I only got 3 hrs sleep lol

I love him a lot, but he was so out of it during the Oscars He seemed very sleepy, like he didn't care at all and didn't want to be there, especially during the last segments where his face was saying ''wrap it up already, I want to go home!''. And the fact that Anne Hathaway was so hyper all the time didn't help the matter. Oh well, can't be good at everything James

There were some funny theories about his atitude during the show, in a comment section of a nymag article. Like, he knew the material sucked so he boycott it by acting like he didn't care. Also, he was playing his character in General Hospital. That's my favourite
