I remember in a documentary on Jane, her daughter Lou was saying that her mother felt kind of liberated and appreciated with Jacques, as he really opened her up to acting, taking her seriously, featuring her in his films.. but that ultimately the partnership was difficult on Jacques as Jane was still clearly in love with Serge, singing his songs, calling him the greatest love of her life.

I kind of see the resemblence.
and the Paul & Joe SS06 campaign was inspired on Birkin, which drives me to think there are more people finding similarities between the two.
