Jennifer Lopez F/W 05.06 New York

I am pretty sure she has a design team backing her up and she sort of overlooks the whole design process and give ideas here and there.

By the way, that's a truly horrible outfit!!!!! What's that.

Jeah I think so too.. perhaps she comes up with some ideas.. but she definitely doesn't do the drawings and stuff!
I really like the sweater! haha

I dont think she designed it all by herself, she would have had help of some professionals, like the David Beckham range (but im sure none of those clothes had anything to do with D. Beckham)

According to the MTV show she did, she has a design team. She put in her own input and helped style the outfits, but she didn't do any real designing.

Yeh, I saw that actually. I didn't think all of it was bad. There were a couple of pieces that I liked. Naomi Campbell's closing outfit literaly made me laugh.

Have you seen the last couple collections? ;)

Yes, and I certainly dont think it was at the same level of Sweetface/JLO.

Thats my opinion.

Also, so many people were hating her collection before they even saw it. How is this objective? Indeed, she's worn some cheesy outfits...but I seem to remember other celebrities, and yes designers wearing and producing some notable fashion mistakes...and they were not ghetto. Jennifer Lopez is a smart business woman, her fashion is not about high concepts, it is about finding one more product to sell to the demographic that is buying her music and paying to see her films. Can we really expect her line to include looks inspired by chanel, or yamamoto, or lanvin for example? Her fans dont want to dress like that, and the people who do want to dress like that are probably not interested in Lopez' product (fashion, film, nor music). They are two totally different markets. This is business folks.

You might be going a bit far here. 1) this is simply another case of someone who is famous for being famous who does not actually excel at anything trying their hand at a craft they have no talent at. She stinks as an actress, she stinks at singing, she stinks at designing. 2) Martha Stewart is a smart business woman, :innocent: jLo-not so much. she is less a smart business woman and more an industry pawn willing to put her name and face (or well known *ss) on anything and everything. Britney Spears anyone? 3) The whole 2 seperate markets thing is crap - look at the line itself? No one who listens to her music or watches her movies would be interested in or could afford her new line, clearly she is trying to squeeze into the prestigous world of high fashion which is so very sad.

Now how exactly do you even know that anyone who listens to her music or watches her movies would not be interested in or could afford her new line...as you say??

I think you are making some socio-economic judgments about who her fans are, what they are willing to pay for, and what they like. Until you actually look at some market research I suggest you re-think your baseless arguement. I happen to have seen market research on the demos who are in her fan base...and believe me they spend money in the U.S. and Internationally -- whether you can stand to believe that or not.

Yes her desire to make womens apparel is quite ego-driven, but I am pretty sure there was subtantial thought given to how much money she could make from these ventures and licensing deals. I do not want to be put in the position of defending Lopez, as I dont value her singing, acting, nor her designing...so I'd appreciate if you dont put words in my mouth. One last point...how many designers actually sell everything they put on the runway in their shows? So why is this line expected to sell everything we saw in that show, when we all know there are many designers who dont sell the pieces in their shows.. As many people who actually work in the industry know, shows often are used to mainly to drive the perfume sales and licensing. I stand by my earlier statement -- despite you calling it crap. I cant believe we are still even debating la Lopez...its old news.

Not trying to take away anyones right to an opinion...we just shouldnt call one anothers ideas "crap"...especially when its not well thought out.
These lopez perspectives have gotten far too personal for some people.

Carry on ... :D

The reason why everyone has their eyes on Lopez is that she's so "big" (as in powerful superstar  ) and got so much press for such a terrible clothing line. We're debating Sweetface because it's ridiculous and UNFAIR to have someone really untalented in the designing departement (amont others :innocent: ) who's getting loads of attention for something really terrible, when the real talents are not recognized for what they do.

Is it debatable?????? YES IT IS!

This is so interesting...

I just checked my "Karma".

Several of my "Karma" points were taken away -- ONLY after my response defending my point of view, which someone called "crap" earlier. I had checked my karma points last night, before the posting...before the points were zapped!

I certainly do not want to jump to any conclusions, I dont want to believe someone went after my Karma because they dont like my opinion...or that I defend my opinion.

Odd -- isnt it??

I dont usually look at the karma points, but I did this time for some reason.

Well Im glad its not "real" Karma...;)

Sure Kimkhuu -- it was debateable...I just feel like its getting tired.
I would rather spend time talking with all of you about a new aspect to this or even better -- the real talents you refer to...those who are not recognized for what they do.

Cant we spend more time looking at them, rather than sweetface/lopez? I mean she's gone off to her next big project already... I hear she's training for NASA's next mission! :flower: ;) Just kidding...
