ONE OF LONDON'S FINEST

JENNY DYER's entire spring/summer collection has already been snapped up by Browns and Sam Robinson is also a serious fan. "Her dresses sell so well," the founder of The Cross tells us. "She's a very clever lady." Despite a speedy rise up the style ladder, it is Jenny's softly-softly attitude has surely been her winning card. "I never wanted to be in every boutique, everywhere, just for the sake of it," the designer, who with her gorgeous curves and sex-kitten blonde fringe is surely the best ad for her dresses, says. "The emphasis is very much on the highest possible quality." Where once her stunning pieces coined her a reputation for being the DVF of the shirt dress, Dyer is these days very much a designer in her own right. The new collection – all lettuce leaf finishing on soft cheesecloth dresses, evening dresses that are "a little deconstructed, not too fitted, so you can just throw them on and feel fabulous", and incredible silk jersey pieces that you hardly dare touch but feel like a gazillion dollars once you're in them – leaves little doubt that she means business. "It's as close as you'll get to couture in ready-to-wear," says Jenny "Every piece is cut on the stand, which is unusual now that everybody is using computers. It's a bit like a 3-d drawing - very old-fashioned." Need more evidence? "Two weeks after we delivered our autumn/winter collection in July our stockists were sold out," she goes on. "So that's the most important thing - the customers like it." (September 28 2005, AM)
