Walking into Alexa Chung’s Madewell presentation Monday night at the Bowery Hotel was like discovering that piece of clothing you always wished you would find. We’ve loved Alexa’s effortlessly chic looks ever since we girl-crushed her last April, and after following—and borrowing—her style, we couldn’t think of a better pairing than her with Madewell.
And neither could Alexa, apparently. “It was like a dream, really,” Alexa said of her first ever collaboration with the label. “I really love their brand and really like their vision and how relaxed and laid-back it is.”
The presentation followed this same aesthetic, casual yet lively and upbeat, thanks to the live DJ—a friend of Alexa’s—and friendly chatting between the models, Alexa, and several other guests. And it was no surprise the clothes were adorable; tea dresses, stripes, and perfectly layered cardigans and jackets all had that polished vintage feel Alexa channels so well.
As far as casting goes, and with us being model-obsessed, we were curious as to what Alexa looked for in choosing the perfect girls to represent her new line. “Well, I really like girls with long hair, because I have short hair myself, so I really just cast girls I want to be!” We observed, and yes, the majority of the girls did have long hair! But head Madewell designer Kin Lee chimed in to tell us Alexa also wanted her models to be “someone you want to walk up and talk to.”
On our way out, Modelinia was lucky enough to spot Daisy Lowe just in time to have a quick chat with her about her fellow Brit and good friend’s debut line. “I literally want everything!” she gushed. Us too, Daisy. Us too. ~ Kristin White
