Jeremy Scott - Designer

The Moschino brand has been such a non-entity since Franco's gone. Now they're just desperately seeking attention, and with the added feature of heavy-handed cheap gimmicks-- because that's all Jeremy Scott is: Mr. Gimmick. Even on his best day, Jeremy's not even a very very poor man's Franco. Franco had genuine wit, cheekiness and expensive humor-- as well as a greta sense of political/social elegance on his side. He was able to design a Chanel-knockoff with "Expensive Jacket" emblazoned on the back, and made me smile. Jeremy's only sense of humor is cheap gimmicks. Who would pay for that? Everything he touches just looks cheap. I'm actually more surprised/ shocked/ impressed that such heavyhitters as Pucci, Chloe and Versace were interested in him. To be turned down by Jeremy Scott...

Not a fan of this. Not huge on Jeremy Scott. Which is ironic that one of my favorite pieces I own is an Adidas Jeremy Scott Leopard print and Baroque track jacket(how could I pass it up?! Reminded me of Versace! Haha)
Moschino is so fun, but I feel Scott is just too in your face for this. Hopefully we are proven wrong and we see something different from him.

This is definitely interesting... It feels like it could go very good or very bad. Allthough my money is on bad, but it will be exciting to see if JS actually can hold back and create something wearable in the spirit of Moschino.

Wow,

There's a lot of hate for JS here. I actually like what he does, as a street wear brand at least. And I love his Adidas collaboration. My only worry is that he might downgrade the brand to graphic sweatshirts and leggings and turn the house into a variant of his own line (which is what Leon and Lim of OC have sadly done with Kenzo). I'd hope he maintains their fine workmanship, tailoring, and dressmaking, you know, all the things that make a proper fashion house. I actually think it will be exciting to see Scott try his hand at making these kinds of clothes and it will be a lovely continuation, theoretically, of Mochino's legacy.

Please ....he'd be more appropriate for Ed Hardy rather than Moschino.

How very appropriate, Lola!:rofl::rofl: Although, can we say this collab still within the true spirit of Moschino?

That said, Moschino and Marc Jacobs are one of the very few high fashion houses that lend clothes to Gay Times, so for all his tackiness, Scott does appear to have some sort of moral compass.

FROM MISSOURI WITH LOVE: Jeremy Scott definitely loves a fun collaboration.

The Moschino creative director flew to Shanghai on Monday to celebrate the launch of a new capsule collection realized in collaboration with American beer brand Budweiser, which is produced in Missouri, the Midwestern state where the designer was born in 1975.

Unveiled in conjunction with the debut of the new Budweiser Pulse bear, the capsule includes 15 ready-to-wear and accessories designs for both men and women. They are available starting today at Moschino stores around the world, as well as online at moschino.com.

Scott first used the popular Budweiser label for a dress included in the Moschino fall 2014 collection, which was part of the “Camp: Notes on Fashion” exhibition at the metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute last spring.

For the launch of the capsule, Moschino organized a special event at Shanghai’s Paramount Ballroom, where Chinese jazz singer Jasmine Chen offered a live performance.

During his tenure at Moschino, which he joined in 2013, Scott delivered a wide range of collaborations with diverse companies and brands, including Mattel, Nickelodeon, The Sims, Ciroc, MTV, The Walt Disney Co. and Candy Crush, among others.

As much as I personally loath JS, I have to acknowledge that he was probably the best candidate for the job and the financial results show it.
Franco was practically impossible to replace, his wit and sense of humor made a lot of sense in the Italian fashion and social scene of the 80's, but gradually lost some of its bite in the 90's, before he died. Plus, despite his flirting with kitsch and excess, he was an incredibly elegant man (something that JS is definitely not).
JS has taken some of Moschino's flashier elements and made them his own, adding his proud sense of west-coast garishness. He seems to ignore, though, that Franco's work had a deeply rooted respect for classic codes, that were subverted via irony and innuendo.

That's mainly my problem with Scott's work for Moschino. It lacks any form of intellectual with and humour to his collections. It's a bit too on the candyfloss spectrum for my taste. A dress which looks like a papercut creation? Yeah, I interesting. Cute. Fun. But hardly memorable.

Jeremy Scott has announced he’s leaving Moschino:

It's the end of an era. At least he ended it with a high note. Moschino has never been more exciting, the last few years were the best years for him and the brand.

Whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill. I'm going to miss Carlyne's styling and Meisel's campaign the most.

Same!! Devastating news, honestly. You just know that whoever comes next simply won't possess the fun, unpretentious spirit of Moschino that Jeremy Scott lived and breathed. I went from loathing the cheapness to understanding and appreciating camp through his work and I am definitely going to miss it, I can't see that similar approach working for him anywhere else so I'm curious to see what his future work might look like. But I'm not in the least looking forward to Moschino without him. I hope to be proven wrong.

It's really hard picturing him anywhere else, and his tenure was only 10 years?? it felt way longer
