John Varvatos Mens F/W 10.11 Milan

^yes, it's inspiring.....but it doesn't make you rush out to your local john varvatos boutique :flower: the fear that you'll be the only one in your circle without the new gucci loafers is a strong motivator. at least amongst some fashion folk :innocent:

that would be very true. He does get my money when it involves his footwear though!

that is very inspiring in my eyes. When it is the time of year where I don't have much money (winter) i need that push to recreate looks with pieces I already own. Putting things together with a new eye. Instead of pulling my hair out because someone bought the last pair of Studded Prada pants in the U.S or something!

Ummm, I'm sure his investors would just love to hear this sarcasm..lol.. He's not trying to inspire you to go in your closet. He's trying to inspire you to go to his store and BUY something.

^^ reese &others, but i think that for many folks who are not wealthy and may not live in a major metro area, seeing photos of runway shows + runway looks actually DOES serve as a point of reference and inspiration for styling + cheaper purchases -- if you asked every user here what their favourite designer was, i am sure the percentage of them who actually own pieces from their favourite designers is quite low!

i tend to agree with desi here because often when i "like" a collection it is not because i want to own specific pieces, but because something about the overall feel or ambience or textures or whatever of it appeals to me and i want to associate that with how i present myself -- and with my modest salary and lack of trust fund, that often does not line up with buying everything :)

i think the sort of "inspiration" and visual/cultural/financial/whatever stimulation we get from fashion varies for everyone -- this may not be the goal of the designer (and i'm sure some want to "inspire" and some just want to "sell") and may not make the most sense for them economically, but for many people fashion goes beyond purchasing certain items for the sake of it, either because they cannot afford it or because they think of it in different personal terms :)
