MARK FAST has enlisted Julia Restoin-Roitfeld as creative consultant for the latest collection of his diffusion line Faster, we caught up with the duo to find out more about the partnership.
How did working together come about?
Mark: "I love her elegant style and energy! We met through mutual friends and it just happened very naturally."
Julia: "I first got in touch with Mark and his team because I was a huge fan of his clothes and wore a lot of his dresses. Then I asked him to make me a dress for the Cannes Film Festival."
Julia, what did your role for Faster involve?
"I was hired as a 'creative consultant' and my role involved giving out ideas, suggestions and advice on the image of Faster. Such as the image concept, the choice of model and the photographer."
Tell us about Faster, what do you see as the difference between it and the mainline, aside from price?
Mark: "Faster is more daytime wearable. I call it luxury basics. It's a bit more accessible than my other work. My friends can wear it to work - it's not exactly easy to wear eveningwear all the time!"
Why did you choose plum as the season's signature colour?
Mark: "I felt like it was a great contrast to the black, it's a little bit cheeky and fun."
How did you get on working together?
Mark: "It felt easy. Her ideas and vision were really synched to what we already wanted to achieve with the lookbook shoot so there was a nice flow to working with her."
Julia, what is it you love about Mark's clothes?
"I like the fact that Mark is able to manage to mix innovative modern clothes with flattering clothes. It is quite challenging and not a lot of designers are able to do it like he does. I just love being part of the beginning of what will be I am sure a huge and long success."
Mark, what is in the pipeline for the coming months?
"I plan to expand Faster. Maybe more texture and floating fabrics that drape off the body. And we are launching an online shop on ASOS Marketplace!"
