Kelly Clarkson: “I’m Afraid of Mouth Herpes”

kellyclarksonblendermaggq6.jpg

Kelly Clarkson gives a very candid and hilarious interview in the August 2007 issue of Blender.

On what she does in her free time: “You know, I never go out. If I’m in L.A., I’m usually at my house playing Guitar Hero.”

On her lying music label, BMG: “Everyone keeps saying how hard this record because be because of all the crap surrounding it, but that last one was really hard to make. I literally got told to my face that it wouldn’t sell more than 600,000 copies. And I got lied to. One reason I don’t like working with people at the label is that they like. They told me, ‘We really want you to got Sweden. These people really want to write with you.’ So I flew to Sweden with lyrics I’d written to this track I’d been send, ‘Since U Been Gone.’ I get there, and the writers are like, ‘Oh, we already have lyrics. We just want you to sing it.’ It was really awkward. It was mean. That’s why there’s no relationship with them. Because I don’t like to be lied to.

On ex-boyfriend David Hodges, former Evanescence keyboardist: “I didn’t even really like the guy. I’m more mad at myself for being so blding. Why would I pick someone like him to date? What’s wrong with me? … It’s fine in the end. Maybe I ahd to go through that and learn more about myself. Maybe that’s why I don’t date much, either.”

On how many boys she’s made out with: “Four? No, wait. Oh my God, five! I have major trust issues. [laughs] I just don’t make out with people. That’s a waste of my kisses and time. And it’s so personal. It’s like, my face. Plus, I’m afraid of mouth herpes.”

On her face-to-face meeting with music exec Clive Davis: “It was nice. IT was just the two of us, and his dog. I was like, I don’t know you very well, and I am not a bulls******. I get you don’t like the album. You’re 80; you’re not supposed to like my album. I said, ‘Clive, I’m going to make tons of albums. It doesn’t have to be mainstream every time. Then he kept bringing up people he’s worked with. ‘You’re a Whitney! You’re a Mariah!’ ‘First of all, Mariah writes a lot of her stuff. Secondly, I dont’ want a career like either of those singers. That’s why it’s hard for us to make an album. You don’t know me! You don’t know what I like, and you don’t know what my fans like.”

Aw that sucks that Hannah Montana beat Kelly. Whatever, I think all that matters is that kelly has a kick *** album. My December is almost as good as Breakway. The new album has some real songs that are easy to relate to, and they contain emotions that are straight from the heart. The album may not have singles, but all the songs in the album are beautiful to listen to. I think that some people are afraid to listen to this album because they think that it's going to be dark and depressing, i'm sure if people would give it a chance they'd like it. I like this side of kelly because she has the chance to share what has been on her mind. My favorite songs include: 'How I feel,' 'Irvine,' 'Be Still,' 'Judas,' and 'Don't Waste your time.'

and wowww i looovve her spread in Blender. They always have some really cool photoshoots w/ her. That interview was interesting as well lol.

Kelly Clarkson's Marijuana Cookie Experiment

As the saying goes, "When in Rome . . ." Well, when in Amsterdam, Kelly Clarkson partook in a (legal) local activity: She ate a marijuana cookie.

"It was in Amsterdam," the singer, 25, tells USA Weekend magazine in a new interview. "It is legal there, and it is not legal here. I don't ever do anything illegal here."

Clarkson adds: "I have never smoked anything in my life. I've never tried any drugs. I wouldn't do anything that would cause holes in your brain or your nasal cavity. Call me Texan, but I don't think of marijuana like that."

Ever since the Amsterdam experiment the singer says she's been "oregano-free."

Similarly candid during the chat, Clarkson opens up about the tumultuous times that inspired her new record My December, its unfavorable response at her label and her body image.

Of the latter, Clarkson explains, "I have never been to a point where I have been so unhappy that I have said to myself: 'Oh God, you are fat!' I don't allow myself to go there."

Still, Clarkson admits to feeling a lot of pressure while writing My December, inspired by a breakup – her boyfriend was cheating on her, she reveals – and the stress of a long tour plagued by illness.

"Everything caught up with me in a bad way," she tells USA Weekend. "My body was wearing down, and my emotions were wearing down."

Life became worse for Clarkson, she says, when she submitted her album to her label RCA in January and earned, well, not the response she expected. She has already spoken publicly about her disagreements with label head Clive Davis. But as she tells it in the new interview: "I'm going to be real honest with you: I am not a fan [of Davis]...I do respect him, but I don't want to barbecue with him. We don't braid each other's hair. And, despite the rumors, he is nowhere near a father figure."

Despite darker moments in her life though – and her recent career hiccups including the firing of her longtime manager and cancellation of her summer tour – Clarkson still feels confident and comfortable with her position.

"I used to live paycheck to paycheck," she says in the interview. "Now I am set for life."
