Stars celebrate Kendra Spears' marriage to Prince Rahim Aga Khan

LEONARDO DICAPRIO, NAOMI CAMPBELL and EDWARD NORTON were among the stars who turned out to toast model KENDRA SPEARS' marriage to PRINCE RAHIM AGA KHAN at a party in New York on Saturday night (07Sep13).

The happy couple married on the shore of Lake Geneva in Switzerland on 31 August (13) in a traditional Muslim ceremony, and they subsequently flew back to the U.S. to celebrate the nuptials with their famous friends.

They threw a lavish bash at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan on Saturday and British supermodel Campbell took on the task of introducing the newlyweds at the party, according to New York Post gossip column Page Six.

Hollywood star DiCaprio was also in attendance, along with fellow actor Norton and Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis.

The 250 guests were treated to performances by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and British rockers Band of Skulls.

Since marrying the prince, Spears has adopted the new title of Princess Salwa Aga Khan.

The wealthy son of the Aga Khan, Prince Rahim Aga Khan celebrated his recent wedding to American supermodel Kendra Spears in lavish fashion at Manhattan’s Museum of Natural History on Saturday night.

Guests including Naomi Campbell, who introduced the couple at a party, Leonardo DiCaprio, Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, actors Edward Norton and Rashida Jones toasted the prince and his beautiful bride.

Also there partying until the early hours under the Central Park West museum’s famous 94-foot-long fiberglass replica of a blue whale, were billionaires Ron Burkle, Vivi Nevo, Oscar-winning producer and director Brian Grazer and Prince Vincent of Liechtenstein, as well as a host of top models, including Karlie Kloss, who are close friends with the bride.

The 250 guests were treated to performances by British rockers Band of Skulls and American indie band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

One guest told us, “It was a very elegant event with a very well-heeled and dressed crowd, many who had flown in from London, Paris and Milan. There were a lot of models there who were friends with the bride, who wore a beautiful white gown.”

In a tale fit for Hollywood, the eldest son of Aga Khan IV and one of the 10 richest royals in the world (worth an estimated $800 million) married Seattle-born model Spears, 25, now rechristened Princess Salwa Aga Khan, on Aug. 31 in a Muslim ceremony at a palace in Geneva, Switzerland.

The 41-year-old prince is the heir to the title and fortune of Aga Khan IV, who is the Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims and is considered a descendant of Prophet Muhammad.

Spears is a regular on the catwalks of Paris and Milan. She was touted as the “next Cindy Crawford” after launching her career in 2008 and became a face of Escada, Prada, Diane von Furstenberg and other top brands.

The American beauty will fit right into the family. Prince Rahim’s younger brother, Prince Hussain, married American model Kristin White, while his father was married to British model Sarah Croker-Poole. And Rahim’s grandfather was married to Rita Hayworth.

Princess Kendra Salwa Spears and her husband Prince Rahim Aga Khan are expecting their first child.

American model Spears married Rahim in a fairytale ceremony in Geneva in September last year, after converting to Islam. Rahim is the son of His Highness Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. News of Spears' pregnancy was confirmed on the official Ismaili website today.

“Expressing his greatest happiness, Mawlana Hazar Imam [the Aga Khan] informed the Jamat [community] today that Prince Rahim and Princess Salwa are expecting their first child,” read a statement. “Around the world, Ismailis are gathering in Jamatkhanas to celebrate the happy news.”

Spears was touted as the 'next Cindy Crawford' at the start of her modelling career, thanks to a similar distinctive mole on her upper lip. After coming second in Ford Models' Supermodel of the World competition in 2008, she went on to appear on catwalks for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton - to name but a few - and has starred in campaigns for Prada, Versace and Armani.

Princess Salwa Aga Khan, otherwise known as Kendra Spears, and her husband Prince Rahim Aga Khan have welcomed their first child. The American model gave birth to a baby boy, Prince Irfan, on 11 April in Geneva, Switzerland.

Rahim is the son of His Highness Aga Khan IV, the spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, and the news was announced on the official Ismaili website.

"Both mother and child are in good health," read the official statement, expressing the "great happiness of the Aga Khan and Spears family".
