harpersbazaarWoody Allen and Kristen Stewart to host opening night at Cannes
Kristen Stewart is heading back to Cannes next month to open the famous film festival.
The actress stars in Woody Allen's latest film, Café Society, alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively and Steve Carell.
The plot centres on a young man (played by Eisenberg) who goes to Hollywood in the 1930s to pursue his dream of working in the film industry. His plans are scuppered when he becomes sucked into the café society of the time and falls in love (presumably with Stewart's character).
It marks Stewart's first time in a Woody Allen film, although she has already been cast in another, co-starring Bruce Willis. The director is well-known for casting his favourite actors again and again, with former muses including Emma Stone and Diane Keaton.
Café Society is the third Woody Allen film to kick off the proceedings at Cannes, with Hollywood Ending and Midnight in Paris doing the honours in 2002 and 2011 respectively. He is the only director to have had three films opening the festival; other directors with two films include Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge), Luc Besson (The Fifth Element and Big Blue) and Ridley Scott (The Duellists and Robin Hood).
It is also Stewart's third time at the festival, following her appearances in On the Road and Clouds of Sils Maria, the latter of which earned her a Cèsar for Best Supporting Actress (the French equivalent of an Oscar) – making her the first American actress to do so.
