La prairie skincare thread

Nordstrom will make you a sample of any La Prairie product if they don't have a prepackaged one.

I was looking for a lighter foundation for summer, and the SA who started helping me was a La Prairie specialist  Great ... I'm imagining it's probably the most expensive line in the store. I specifically told her it had to be a pink-toned foundation, couldn't be yellow ... I really couldn't see what was going on as it blended with what I was wearing and of course I was under horrid fluorescent lights. But I get it home, and it is yellow yellow yellow. Love the texture though ... so I'm going to see if there's a better color for me. Hope so ...

i would be very weary of this product.

the normal cellular radiance cream is basically just a rich emollient moisturizer. the antioxidants will become unstable because of the jar packaging (exposure to light and air) shortly after opening and the minerals which give the complexion radiance is purely cosmetic, and will not last when washed off.

the other ingredients used (plant and natural ingredients) have very little research to suggest their effectiveness. especially when applied topically, and in such small amounts.

i'm assuming the same could be said for platinum. the research, if any, would be extremely limited as to how effective it is as a skin care ingredient. the only reason they include such an ingredient is to allude towards luxury and increase the retail price.

if you are seriously considering purchasing, contact La Prairie and request the ingredient information and any research behind their claims towards this product.

I completely agree. The first thing that doesnt look right to me is that the packaging is too over the top and a good chunk of what your paying for. A swarovski spatula - are you serious?? I think they are pushing the "luxurious" part of their products too much and not the effectiveness. Just look at the names they pick - diamons, platinum, caviar - all allude to luxury. Just because it looks good on your finger doesnt mean they're good for your skin. I agree that it's most likley just a good moisturizer but no real long term results. I prefer brands like kinerase or revive that use ingredients with a fair amount of independant research to back them up.

^^It's true...although I do like their foaming cleanser, for it lasts me a year. And gets dry skin off. Used with a Clarisonic skincare brush, very fabulous. But I'm looking into the line Euoko who have a radiance cleanser, so I'll always use their daily cleanser and that may be it, except their glycolic acid serum is good, I think Natura Bisse's Glycolic 50% peel is better.
The Radiance Cream I received as a gift, shall I read off, type off the ingredients? there's soooo many, I wanted to like this cream but it does NOT moisturize well, and if you've exfoliated that day, it ROLLS off the face when pressing and blending it in, along your temples and jawline, forehead :o
Skin Caviar Luxe is the same, not very hydrating, although I love the smell, and the Crystalline Concentrate is not as good as ReVive, I agree about that, ReVive I use their Intensite Volumising Serum and on top Moisturizing Renewal Cream..use Natura Bisse and ReVive, and from La Prairie only their Foam Cleanser, Purifying Cream Cleanser is good, Cleansing Emulsion used to be good, but they have added mineral oil in it, which broke me out bad. Their eye creams are good but really they are all about image...and they are not even associated with the REAL Clinique (Clinic) la prairie in Clarens-Montreux, Switzerland, not since the 80's.

letthemeatcake: weren't you going to make a revive thread? i'd love to hear other people's opinions about the brand/products in specific because I plan on buying a bit more of them

Yes I will make one. The Best ReVive products are their creams, the Moisturizing Renewal Factor with the Glycolic acid (this is for PM) and then the Sensitif Repair Cream is beautiful at calming and making skin more even, their Microdermabrasion kit is terrific, and the Intensite Volumizing Serum is phenomenal, if you can stomach the $600 price tag for 1.0 oz.:rolleyes:

Thanks for the reminder. B)

:shock:Oh not saying at all that La Prairie products dont work, just depends on the sensitivy of the the skin it is applied to. They use many many potentially irritating ingredients in some of their most luxe creams, I never had a reaction to it, but the ingredient list for the Cellular Radiance Cream is about 80 lines long!! I have only had one reaction from a La Prairie product, and I have used entire Skin Caviar line, Cellular Radiance line, the Swiss Cellular-de Agers, but the Marine Biology Tonic had waaay too many mineral oil substitutes in it which actually were mineral oil just disguised under another name! I except more from La Praire!! I do REALLY want the Skin Caviar Luxe Lift Eye Cream, its the most precious consistency and is time-release, meaning it keeps underneath the eyes hydrated for 24 hours

I am not surprised. La Prairie raised the price on my favorite moisturizing cream they make, the Cellular Nurturing Cream for anti-redness/women/men who have intense cosmetic procedures, etc...anyway not that its that huge but it's now $205. It was $195, actually when I first bought it almost half a decade ago it was $175.

I called my LP rep and asked her if she'd be in one day next week, she took that for sending me her card and a Gift they have available with a $300 purchase or more. I wasnt planning on spending $300 because I'm getting the Foam Cleanser *which lasts a year I swear* and the Nurturing Cream, still thinking it was the old price. Guess I always forget tax too. Damn it!

^ This is the very first time I've heard of a GWP, and the purchase is $300

I tried a sample of the sunscreen, hate how it smells ...

I dont like the sunscreen, too greasy. Everything is very greasy, and that's not a good word,La Prairie is a really good and effective line for some people. It's terrific for dry skin and mature skin, somewhat sensitive (you have to be careful with the Radiance cream and a lot of their creams if you're sensitive like me, though I can use their Night Repair, their Time Release and there's a new Resurfacing Cream that goes with a Peel that is new....*sigh*)

Anyway yes they are big on GWP and sometimes they suck, sometimes they are good, the last one was good because it was a deluxe sample size of their Purifying Creme Cleanser which is a nice cleanser but I wouldnt spend the $75-$80 for the original size, and it came with a radiance cream sample, which is expensive, that's rare, but when they throw in cellular revitalizing eye gel and extrait of skin caviar and those new Grandma Silver/Midnight Rain Fragrances I'm like wtf! Their GWP used to be $500 or more. :judge:

ive been using the la prairie cellular contour eye cream for about a month and its just not moisturizing enough. i think i now have a few more wrinkles because it hasnt been hydrating my eye area well. if i look closely in the mirror i can actually now SEE dry skin around my eyes. i went to the la prairie lady at bloomingdales and she basically flipped out on me, she said that this is the best eye cream for 32 years in a row yada yada... anyway i asked if she could recommend another eye cream even if its not from la prairie and she recommended the eye and lip contour complex by sisley. i am kinda hesitant to put stuff thats for the lip on my eyes... doesnt seem right. has anyone tried this sisley eye cream or can anyone please recommend an eye cream that is both moisturizing but also helps to minimize the appearance of wrinkles?

tannenhauser I'm sorry you had such an experience. The woman sounds a bit mad-literally. I dont care for that Sisley product however. I've tried it, and also didnt like the fact that it was for the lip area. And it gave me the exact same look and feel you're describing-extreme dryness. So I didnt take kindly to that.
Two brands I love and have been leaning towards lately and recommending to people are Natura Bisse and ReVive. I'd travel to Bergdorf's and take the elevator down to Cosmetics and go to these counters and get their take on what is best for eyes. I really love Natura Bisse.
Check out the Natura Bisse thread started here at TFS~

thanks for the advice letthemeatcake, the woman is indeed crazy... you would think they would put a knowledgeable "nice" woman at counters like la prairie... but anyway, bergdorfs is so out of the way for me i just ended up going back to bloomingdales and got the shiseido benefiance eye cream which already after 2 days i can notice my eye area is starting to regain moisture. its a little heavy for day use i think so what ive been doing is using the la prairie one in the morning and the shiseido one at night, so far so good. one day ill venture uptown and will pop into bergdorfs to check out natura bisse and revive as i ultimately would like to replace the la prairie with something else to use for daytime.

The Shiseido Benefiance is a nice product, I've used it. And indeed very hydrating. You could begin to use it as your full-time day/night eye cream once winter comes.

And isnt Bergdorf's just several blocks away from Bloomingdales? Bloomies is on 59th right? I think BG is on 54th.

yeah, the only thing about the shiseido benefiance is it takes a very long time for it to absorb so im hesitant to use it in the daytime... maybe because it is so hydrating. i go to the bloomingdales downtown in soho, its much closer for me than the 59th st location. ive been reading the natura bisse thread and i am intrigued... maybe ill take my hike sooner than later.

New products for 2015:

Swiss luxury skin care brand La Prairie is to launch four new products in early 2015.

The first are Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Eye Cream (USD$212) and Crystal Emulsion ($286), additions to the Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Collection that was launched this year, offering products to help skin protect itself from premature ageing intensified by environmental extremes.

Both launching in January 2015, the Eye Cream is designed to fight the first signs of ageing around the eye area, while the Emulsion is a lightweight daily moisturiser.

All products in the collection contain a combination of ingredients sourced in the Swiss Alps: purple saxifrage, soldanella alpina and Swiss snow algae. These were selected for their ability to survive and thrive in the 'harshest setting on earth for plant life'. The brand has used bio-technology to create a complex that embodies the strength of these survivor plants and transfers it to the skin, helping it to become more resilient and adapting to the daily extremes of life. Saponaria pumila has also been added to the new products for 'a new level of potency', enhancing the skin’s protective mechanisms that guard against damage.

The Eye Cream is blended with hydrating hyaluronic acid and shea butter to moisturise and smooth for even-textured, perfectly prepped skin around the eye area.

The Emulsion is formulated with micro-pigments to capture light and boost radiance, as well as vitamins C and E for antioxidant benefits. It is recommended by the brand for use as a 'recovery moisturiser' for stressed skin as a result of dermatological procedures, change in climate or excessive travelling etc.

Next, White Caviar Illuminating Moisturizing Cream ($450) is new to the White Caviar Collection, a moisturiser designed to fade age spots, give intenstive hydration, lift and illuminate the skin. A clarifying whitening complex, licorice extract and Swiss garden cress sprout extract work by addressing pigment production and brightening the skin, while Golden Imperial Caviar Extracts – the cream's signature ingredient – help firm. It is launching in March 2015 for Asia and the Americas, and May 2015 for EMEA.

Finally, Anti-Aging Rapid Response Booster ($260) is an 'accelerated wrinkle interceptor' formulated with a targeted delivery system to deliver specialist anti-ageing ingredients to the cells responsible for the production of collagen and elastin. The brand claims that results can be seen in just two weeks. It contains La Prairie’s Exclusive Cellular Complex combined with plankton extracts for an exfoliating action, a herbal brightening complex and Silver Vine Extract to support tone and translucency. It should be applied under moisturiser. The Rapid Response Booster will be available in March 2015 for EMEA, April for the Americas and May for Asia.
