Lana Del Rey

This song is definitely similar to the jams on her first record. Quite like it.

Yes! Very Diet Mtn Dew - silly lyrics but irresistible at the same time.

I love it how she's able to mix these songs with more dramatic ones and make a consistent whole. Can't wait for the new album to be out.

I like the new track - but it sounds a bit too similar to tracks off "Born To Die." I liked that "Ultraviolence" was an evolution of sound and style for Lana, and the first single, "Honeymoon" also sounded progressive for her, but "High on the Beach" just seems a little been-there-done-that from her.

I  High on the beach! Lana at her best! Can't wait for the video!

^^^ I love it too.

I love Lana as a performance concept: Had Rita Hayworth been brought back to life in 2015, living at the Chateau Marmont, going out at night being dressed by Hedi, and hanging out with the DJs and ****** in East LA, while lamenting the lost of Old Hollywood. A sort of melancholic Lestat de Lioncourt Siren-y character.

I don't think she's visionary, trailblazing or inventive in her Baroque Pop. But to me, she's very good at what she does, and doesn't stoop to scraping the barrel to appeal to the tweens the way the rest of the Popstars-- including Madonna, is doing.

Does Lana call the paparazzi on herself? I can't help noticing how many paparazzi pics are out there of her, almost as much as Alexa Chung!

I wouldn't think so. I think these last days there has been more pictures, probably because of her new songs and the expectations on her new album.

Talking about paparazzi...

Her weakest video, I think. She looks a bit awkward trying to sing and be sexy at the same time (which she usually does well). I do love her with the gun though.

I love her. I really do.

And maybe it's just realizing that she doesn't want to be involved in fashion or be more fashion-oriented and it's totally OK that she doesn't want to be a part of that, but I really, really, really wish she would polish her image and her videos a bit more. Not that I want her to lose her gritty edge and persona, nor would I want her to be wearing runway fashion, per say, but rather if she could elevate the look just a bit, pack a little more visual punch, I think it would do wonders for her. Her music is so evocative and cinematic and full...but her videos always just seem a bit half-baked.

Yep, not her best. The video is kind of lazy, if it makes any sense...

I agree with you all, I love her so much but it would be nice if she paid attention to what you guys are mentioning. The video is also so shaky in the beginning half, that it's distracting (I film and I disliked that it was too noticeable and then suddenly very smooth).

Does anyone know who directed this? Some parts look amateurish especially the parts filmed inside the house.

jake nava is the director of the video. he also directed her "shades of cool" video ;)
and james franco's commercials for coke light haha

actually, he's got quite an impressive portfolio! google him and you'll see what i mean.

I totally see what you mean. I like how she hasn't changed her style and doesn't try to be eccentric nor fashion-forward, but she could be much more interesting inside her own style, it would only add to her image, even if she doesn't need to rely on fashion.

There was a phase when I thought this had happened, in 2012: the Altuzarra dress + cape at the MET Ball, the Vivienne Westwood red dress at the BAFTA, the cropped white tops + skirts or jeans... But then she kind of lost it, although I do love some dresses she's been wearing at the concerts.

I think she has been dressing very frumpy lately even in her latest's shows. Maybe she should hire a stylist.

Just watched that video (finally!), I love her ... my interest for her goes up and down, almost dependable on whether I'm interested on something else at the moment because just listening to her voice is enough to trigger another phase of all things Lana for me (if that makes sense), so it doesn't help I've been listening to her a lot lately and watching her videos, I think they always come out as something visually pleasing and stimulating (especially considering the limits of an ultra commercial platform) and you can tell she's been progressing and becoming more complex and communicative as an artist. I never liked Video Games, and watching High by the Beach now, you can tell she's come a long way when it comes to injecting substance.. not just because there's a story line but the way she's exploring cinematography and commentary. I guess my only complaint about her videos is that her songs can be so personal and her voice and music so beautiful and surprisingly intimate.. that her videos to me are easy to forget, they'll just never reach the same heights as the music itself or become a little more than secondary, same for her much debated image. I think that's a good thing, but they're still great to watch..
