Lanvin F/W 11.12 Paris

It's pretty ^_^ but I was looking forward to something more, but I can live with it.

wow, i just LOVE how laughably biased the tFS crowd is. how people always HEAP undiluted praises on Lanvin, Givenchy and Prada (among others) but never fail to piss on Dior, Gucci, Balmain etc.. always finding faults on the latter's styling, accessories, inspiration, use of fur, simplicity.... my goodnessssssss..

i don't see anything remotely beautiful in this at ALL. some dresses were OK, yeah, but putting the price tags in perspective, i'd rather wait for department store rip offs of this chic but cheap looking dresses and splurge on that must-have bag that is very rarely imitated. Alber's past collections, including last season's, were all fantastic. i loved F/W 09 and maybe it's just me but it seems like he can't get over this type of ruched-style dresses.. all this while THE REST OF TFS throw rotten tomatoes (virtually, anyway) at Balmain for sticking to the style that has made the brand so famous.

overrated. :ermm:

while i disagree on the details, i agree with the sentiment. sure, count me in the number of those whose heart starts to race when entering a lanvin boutique, but to pretend that this stuff has even remotely the impact of some of the outstanding collections he's presented in the past two years, really overstates the issue. this collection did come off quite nicely, but it came off that way because it reminded us of stuff that alber has done all to well before. yes, for the trained eye, he used different fabrics and the embellishment got tweaked, but he gave us, for all intents and purposes, a re-do collection. and that's fine. but let's not all pretend that we haven't seen him do this before. for the past few seasons, he has pushed his aesthetic to the breaking point zipping it up, tossing fetishistic collars over it, hiking his girls up on colossal heels, and catching them up in a colorful tornado of parachute silk and brash fur. this season simply lacked that.

with that said, i have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this stuff will sell like hotcakes as it caters directly to the audience that shopped his new york boutique by candle light because they couldn't wait for the power to get turned on. it's a respectable outing, sure, but clearly not his best.

I agree that it's not his best ... still I see some innovations (the inverted pleated shoulders are gorgeous) and many beautiful pieces here. Even with an also-ran collection and one hand tied behind his back he can beat most of the competition ...

Glad to see more daywear ... my big issue with Lanvin at retail is it's all satin. Hardly anything is meant to be worn in the daytime. I hope Barney's buys it ...

Part of the collection was quite different, but then he followed it with enough of the usual and best-of that the difference gets lost ... he couldn't commit to it, it seems ... or had two very different ideas ... or didn't want to scare anyone who depends on him for consistency.

This is Lanvin but it is definitely not Alber at his best. Loved some looks but some were just repetitive. A definite downgrade towards S/S `11

OK, I am going to do a mea culpa here... kinda sorta. Normally I try not to be influenced by the designers comments, but I am buying what Alber is selling. First of all Alber acknowledges that this is a heritage collection, which is code for recycling old hits, and acknowledgment goes a long way with me, and also there is nothing wrong with re-introducing, refining or taking another swing at something that you've done before, not every collection has to be brand new stuff.

Now he really sold me with the gazar statements and I buy that he basically wanted to hold the design aspect constant and work with the fabric. I can see why he wants to take on this fabric because it holds color well and it moves and for these reasons opens up more possibilities for the Lanvin woman; it is not shiny, so I can see it being used to create clothes that are sophisticated and colorful, and yet not stray into cheap, princess or bridesmaid territory.

I like the staging of the show, I  the atmospherics of the tree and the black looks, but I think that that segment of the show went on for too long, only to be relieve by a pale one shoulder gown and a red cocktail dress, thus giving a mass market feel to the collection.

All right, I give up. I just can't not adore it.

As much as I'm not keen of few moments here, like the lace pieces or the polka dot dress, it's all so gorgeous. I'm just head over heels in love with the austere opening pieces (the coat on Monika is brilliant), especially with the hats. I was already loving them at the menswear show, and I'm particularly glad he kept them for womenswear, they create such an amazing atmosphere. And then we have the final bouquet of gazar dresses, which are so perfectly draped and cut, that I just cannot help re-watching the video to see them.

And speaking of atmosphere, I really appreciate the tree and the show's mood now. In fact, I see a lot of sense in Alber speaking of a tree and it's roots. It's like a perfect trip into the archives, with this look in particular. With many beautiful outfits presented, this remains the most striking ensemble of the whole show for me. I know I may be repeating myself, but it feels 120 % of Alber for me, his love and magic he brought for Lanvin

They really shouldn't have changed the video company, it's so short and quick you can't even get the mood.

OMG it's hilarious! I absolutely adore the sense of humor there. Great job Alber!

That video is the best!

Who knew Meisel has such a brilliant sense of humor??? The silliness, the candidness, the awkwardness of the guys having absolutely no sense of rhythm, the shameless dorkiness of Alber, the overall and complete lack of pretension, the girls just letting loose, the use of that awful Pitbull track. Simply perfection.

Love.

That video is GREAT!!!
And the guys are so enthusiastic...NOT :)

srsly, Alber should just do a dance performance with models/dancers instead of a regular fashion show next month.

I didn't know that Racquel and Karen can be party animals! They look really funny and fashionable at the same time.

yeah---
i don't really think it's as funny as they probably think it is...
:ermm:...

i like alber dancing though...
everything he does is charming!...
:p

Putting the advertising video aside and coming back to the collection itself, I'm developing quite an obsession with it recently. I've been watching the show at least once per day and each time there's something new or at least a little detail that makes me fall for it again and again.

I absolutely love the fact Alber ditched embellishments this season and focused on a total simplicity of cutting and draping finishing the pure forms with jewelled touch, just like he did for F/W 06. Also, the python dress on Ginta is fantastic, such a brilliant idea for an autumn collection!
