Lanvin F/W 2005.06 Paris

Imo

Purely my personal opinion, this is not the best collection of Alber for Lanvin. His first collection was stronger than this one, honestly.

Nice point of yours, softie and alex :flower:

I actually find powerdressing very boring these days, I don´t feel like "glam-azones" are right (for now) - to confess that one has a fragile character, I think that can be very strong as dior4ever already said. It´s a balance though between the two - it´s neither about showing that one is a melancholic weakling, nor about showing overconfidence in oneself. It´s probably a bit too philosophical but isn´t it the strongest to know about ones weaknesses and learn to live and accept them?

Looking back on the collection, I liked best the lean, black trenchcoat on Gemma, it´s a dramatic silhouette with the column and it´s unusual for a coat. The florals were a bit too bright for my liking and I also don´t feel the grey mélange jersey gown... it´s a so-so collection in my eyes.

Generally speaking, I am not such a big Lanvin fan, probably because I don´t see where the mondey goes in with the garments - One of my clients has got an unlined wool jersey trench on which she payed around 1500 €, that´s by far too much for such a raw-edged, unlined thing, I´d understand completely if it had any special detailing but this was just so plain... well, to each his own. I just thought like, yeah, these garments do have a certain ease about them, but it´s not like they are veryvery complicated in terms of construction that they deserve such a high pricetag... just look on luisaviaroma.com for reference and you´ll know what I am speaking of.

I just LOVE that long, soft, grey dress with black bonds on! It's one of the most adorable dresses I've ever seen!!! Who would'nt like to have it?

I agree about the blue outfit, but I like everything else I've seen so far. I don't like this outfit either...

cool ...
thanks for sharing your firsthand info...:flower:

it's funny...because when i was consulting for a particular designer...
we worked on just the opposite...showing the 'strength' of women...
the tagline i came up with was...
'the myth of fragility shatters'...

*rather ironic that a man would focus on the fragility of women...
while women want to focus on their own strength... :innocent:

Just going back and reading the old Lanvin threads :flower:

Well, I see myself as both, although I probably do focus on my strength ... perhaps even too much ... but it's a balance, a paradox, and I suspect what he was saying was that he thought the balance in fashion was out of whack ...

that quote again ... " i want to re-introduce fragility and emotion to fashion,my way"

I think perhaps he's thinking of the boot-in-your-face statements that I too find a tremendous turnoff. That hard sexiness of the old Gucci, for example ... clothes that are perhaps a mask.

One thing I like about Alber's clothes is how they flow, they have soft edges, and they don't overwhelm. If you look at real women wearing Pilati YSL, for example, to my eye they often look like clowns because the clothes make *such* a strong and inflexible statement. I don't think that could ever happen with Lanvin ...

that is just beautiful in its simplicity...
thank you runner.....

ta-ta...
i think if you saw the collections of the designer i worked for you would say the same about them...
they were deceptively strong in their softness...
i love this about alber's work for lanvin as well...

:flower:

Sooo lovely, runner ... :crush:

We'd like *that* Lanvin back, please ... ^_^

Agree, it's a wonderful quality ... actually I have always felt I didn't need to show strength in my clothes, that my personality would speak for itself. I have noticed something in my industry ... that generally speaking women who are very serious about advancing in their careers wear pants, not skirts, to work. I have always been unwilling to maintain separate "work" and "really me" wardrobes. Take it or leave it baby

This collection is just painfully gorgeous, each and every look is perfection form head to toe. If I had to choose my favourite Lanvin collection I would probably go with this one. It embodies Alber's talent and sixth sense in the most beautiful way.

Here's the full show

thank you for posting this fanstastic video. not only does this bear testament to his genius at the time, but it his current genius that he has evolved the brand of lanvin so far from this quiet moment of elegance. the lanvin of today remains as elegant as ever, but the lanvin woman has developed a darker, moodier, even sensual side over the years.
