I don't understand layering... in WARMER weather (unless you live in a place that has average highs of 75 or lower). It's fine in colder times, but not very good in Spring or Summer heat. It took me a while to get into femmes wearing shrugs and boleros with tops as far as layering goes. I said in the past that layering is just trying too hard and overdressing. Who wants to overdress and be an absolute mess? I haven't seen too many good layering examples except for wearing shrugs and boleros over tops. I just think it's overdressing. Only exception of overdressing I liked was when a lady at my school went all black with a top, late '90s-esque stretch pants, boots, and a long sweater duster. There was, of course, what I voted as one of the Worst Trends of 2006 or so- leggings under skirts. This, too, was a case of, "why?" As if I hated leggings under denim skirts with Converses, this was just an eyesore for some time. The beauty of skirts (especially minis) being ruined all in an attempt to overdress. I don't get it. Over time, I still got to like shrugs and even leggings under skirts (though it took me a while).
I don't understand layering in warmer weather. Maybe with lighter garments it's okay. But layers are for Fall and Winter ONLY for me. Maybe some cold Spring days if you're lucky. So the most basic layering I'm okay with would be wearing a top with a skirt, and adding a shrug sweater worn over the top and leggings under the skirt. Most other layering jobs are just overdressing without any real continuity(?). That is, unless the layering jobs are like the ones in Post #46. ¡Me gusta the layering in Post #46!
