BoBo Chic

98$ for that Holey Loose Tank ..how bobo  and that eternity shawl..I could get something similar for a fraction..

You know I was thinking the same thing! It looks like you can get this stuff at the thrift store...for say...20 or 30 bucks! I understand the love of vintage clothing but to break peoples wallets is just too much!

Bobo is "ok" as long as you don't go broke just because you've been paying too much too look bobo.

Ohhhhhhh....... but wait a minute.... Isn't that the whole point? You pay a lot to look bobo so you end up being broke so you're officially a REAL bobo!!!!!!

.....ok that wasn't so funny. But it's just so ironic that people pay hundreds and hundreds of dollar to look homeless....... What's the point!???????

I like it a lot actually. Its quite cute, and I wish I could pull it off, but like any fashion only certain people can pull it off.

Karolina looks cute so does Jessica Stam in my opinion.

@kimkhuu

I absolutely love your guide!!
made me laugh!!!

If I went for that look, I'd rather buy myself real dirt cheap vintage stuff than splurging on designer stuff made to look like it comes from goodwill.

Exactly! I like this look, because I shop at thrift stores so it makes looking fashionable easier for me. hehehe. I'm not a fan of mary kate but i do think that she pulls off the look pretty well, although as of late she seems to disappear under the layers. Seeing it on models on a runway makes me giggle though.

I can't fathom buying a designer outfit to make you look like you stepped out of the DAV. (local thrift store) I also resent the statement that this trend seems to make that says if you shop thrift you look like a vagabond. You can shop thrift, layer clothes and still look well put together with an individual sense of style.

^ Well said LauraC!

If someone fancies this look, I'd laugh if they had to spend MONEY to look this way.... How ironic is this....

super funny. there was a whole subcult of 'derelicte'/hippie in the sf bay area during the 80s. it's still my most comfortable disguise. but it is a real balancing act as you get older. i've got kids now too, so how embarassed will they be if i keep this up?

Mk only used bobo to cover up her ano look. Only a trend wh*re will actualy follow this "trend"

yup...the term 'bobo' first appeared in paris in the mid-90's with the arrival of alternative music. all of a sudden rich kids in private schools went from dressing preppy to grungy. So it really isn't something new, but it kinda works in cycles...when everybody is looking chic, look poor and its "cool" ... then when everybody is surfing that trend, look dressy, and thats hot again...etc..

personally, i've always kept it mixed, some expensive designer stuff with vintage, but some people can get away with sporting the total look and its hot..one way or the other. i just find it really lame when someone all of a sudden switches over 180 degrees..

Never heard of the word BOBO, I find it absolutely hiliarious. I used to call my bottle a bobo when I was a toddler

I just think of Will Ferrell in Zoolander when I read this thread "I am really, really dirty...I AM DERELICTE!".

As for the style, well, I hope no one thinks I try to look like this, I'm always in jeans, converse and scarves but I'm an art student at college so it's just practical and comfy. Plus, it's always cold in Scotland...layers are a necessity. This is a typical student style here. I'm also naturally very lazy, I don't have a wardrobe to keep my clothes (my bed is better!). However, I do actually wash, can't leave the house without at least a little bit of make up and make an effort when I'm going somewhere nice.

I love how Mary Kate Olsen carries a £900 designer handbag and doesn't bother to wash/cut her hair and get clothes that actually fit. Come on, it just looks sh*t love!

i know, i find it brilliant how zoolander spoofed the whole hobo / bobo thing way before designers and celebrities picked up on it. i need to rewatch it, that movie is hilarious!

...as for art students, i am sorry to inform you it's a well known fact that art schools are the MECCA of bobo's !!

don't i know it! i hate being lumped in with these people...it almost makes me want to make an effort for going in but i'm too lazy for that  half the people in my class buy their entire outfit from urban outfitters and think they look so "arty". i guess going to art school is more of a fashion statement than something they actually care about.

This is pretty bobo to me

This trend seems to be the new grounge style...some celebs look great wearing it,like Daria,Erin Wasson and the Casiraghis, cause this style is more close to what they usually wear, but the majority look forced!!
