modeliniaLily Donaldson's Guide to London!
London is Calling and we’ve got the answers! With the Summer Olympics right around the corner, we’ve got fish and chips and fabulous vintage threads on our minds. So we caught up with one of our favorite British models, Lily Donaldson, to get her local guide to London. From shopping and bargain hunting in the famous Portobello Market to finding the best Greek food in the city, these are Lily’s favorite spots!
Portobello Market: Portobello Market in West London is one of the most famous street markets in the world, with everything from vintage finds to fresh produce. “I’ve been going there as long as I can remember. People say its not as good as it used to be but I always find a bargain. Friday and Saturday mornings are the best!”
Mario’s Cafe in Kentish Town: “I actually grew up around the corner, it’s great for a fry up!”
Lemonia (a Greek Restaurant in Primrose Hill): “I love going for a walk in the park and then going to get some food here. It is some of the best Greek food in London!”
If you are one of the lucky ones going to London for the Olympics (opening ceremony is THIS Friday!) you now have a model-approved hot spots that you must check out! Now we’re off to find some fish and chips!
It's a Moodie BlogBritish born model Lily Donaldson was scouted by Select Model Management in 2003.
The great niece of Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood and the daughter of photographer Matthew Donaldson, Lily rose to quick fame as a top model of her own accord, landing campaigns for Jil Sander, Dior, and Burberry.
In 2009 she was named as one of the top 30 models of the 2000’s by French Vogue .
Following a serious horse riding accident in 2011, Lily has made a full recovery and is once again gracing the pages of Vogue with her distinct British look.
I’ve worked with Lily on many shoots since she began modelling. ( See pics above- 1 from Corinne Day, 1 from Tom Craig, and 1 from Jem Mitchell) We’ve been on numerous fun trips together, the most memorable one being last year to the Swedish Island of Gotland for British Vogue. We stayed at the Hotel Furillen that sits on a former limestone quarry. Its an eco friendly, minimalist hotel that from the outside you cannot tell whats going on inside. Built from local materials and designed to blend into its surroundings, Lily and I agreed, its the place to go for total solitude to write your autobiography. It barely gets dark there so you have to remember to block out all the light, and they have bikes to borrow so you can wander off around the island, oh and the food is incredible too. All in all quite an experience.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP.
I wanted to go to art school. I loved to draw and paint but i also liked the idea of either being an archaeologist or an architect.
HOW DID YOU END UP DOING WHAT YOU’RE DOING NOW.
I was scouted in Camden town, at the market with a friend of mine.
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE IF YOU WEREN’T YOU?
My mum!
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
On a plane…

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN YOUR CITY WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I would slow NYC down a little bit!
WHAT ARE YOU INTO RIGHT NOW ( MUSIC, FASHION , ART, FOOD)
Food. I really love to cook and to eat, one of the best cities to eat is Montreal in Quebec, Canada.
IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE BESIDES WHERE YOU ARE, WHERE WOULD IT BE?
Jamaica! Jerk chicken everyday
WHAT MUSIC WERE YOU INTO GROWING UP - ARE YOU STILL INTO IT NOW?
Reggae, Neil Young, Bob Dylan…still into it
WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE DESIGNER THAT YOU WOULD WEAR?
I love Vivienne Westwood because aside from her obvious talents for design, she’s a really inspirational character.
WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO NEXT?
Peru!!

style.comJames Franco’s mission for his latest Seven For All Mankind campaign was to meld old Hollywood and new. “The whole aesthetic approach of the campaign is based on the eternal hipness of the clothes,” Franco says. “We can do a meditation on old and new Hollywood at the same time because of the way the clothes fit into all eras.”
Old Hollywood is well represented by classic landmarks, including Hollywood Cemetary, Sunset Boulevard, and Mark Mahoney’s famous Shamrock tattoo parlor. New is represented by the diverse cast, including Lily Donaldson, Lou Doillon, Cody Horn, and Henry Hopper (a very direct connector of old Hollywood and new: he’s the son of the late Dennis Hopper). The roster is international (Doillon is French, Donaldson English) but Europeans have always found a happy home in Hollywood—just as the campaign’s inspiration, Rudolph Valentino, did. “He was the great sex symbol of the silent film era, so much so that some journalists wrote pieces about the general decline of masculinity and blamed Valentino’s suave effeminacy as the main cause,” Franco tells Style.com. “But now, almost a hundred years later, we can champion the ambiguity of Valentino.” The campaign debuts exclusively on Style.com, as do a few behind-the-scenes shots. Look out for the accompanying Web video series shot by Franco on the brand’s YouTube channel July 26.
