'It's Like A School Trip!' Lily Donaldson On Victoria's Secret Coming To London
03 December 2014 by Emma Spedding
Last night London was invaded by a flock of angels, as the Victoria's Secret show was staged in London for the very first time at Earl's Court. We are bringing you all the angel updates with every catwalk look, Instagram snaps and our live coverage of the event. Plus we went behind the pink curtain before the show to catch up with the angels before they put on their wings. We talked to Karlie Kloss about what it's like to be BFFs with Taylor Swift and Joan Smalls about how she gets angel ready.
We went backstage before the VS show and caught up with Lily Donaldson as she sat in the pink Victoria's Secret chair getting her hair angel-ified. Read on to find out what it's like to be an angel and why it reminds her of being on a school trip...
Grazia Daily: Are you always angel ready or have to work at it?
Lily: "I have to work at it obviously, I'm from Kentish Town! I went to Camden School for Girls! it's a lot of work that goes into it. We get a bit of a tan because that always makes everyone feel better. I don't go too dark but I get a little bit. Then the hair and make up and lighting. There is a lot of work. These girls who do it all the time, are really like athletes and train hard. It's a job."
Why do you think Taylor is such a good match for VS?
Lily: "She just really gets into it and she's friends with a few of the girls too which I think is nice for them. She's just into it and she really interacts with all the girls which is nice. She's really sweet."
Grazia Daily: Are you playing tour guide for everyone?
Lily: "Kind of! I kind of am. We haven't had that much time but afterwards they're like 'where shall we go?' and I'm like 'I'm not sure where can handle us!"
Grazia Daily: Is it like a big girl band? Is there some one who is the mother?
Lily: "Oh yes it really is! There's Karlie always bringing us snacks - her cookies! Everyone is a laugh actually. I don't think it would work if the girls weren't really nice. Everyone is really behind Behati this year because she is opening which is a big deal - we're all cheering for her when she goes up. It reminds me of being on a school trip. When I was at home packing - we had a blue jean one day, a black jean the other - remember when you were at school and you had a list of things you have to remember to take I was like 'omg i'm packing for a school trip!"
Grazia Daily: Talk us through your past 72 hours, what have you been doing?
Lily: "We arrived in London which was fun because I was the only British girl on board because Jourdan was already here. So I was like 'welcome guys, welcome to my country.' It was raining so I was like 'oh no no this is just a blip it's usually REALLY sunny. Wd landed, went back to the hotel and ate some food. Then we woke up went to Bond Street, and went into store. They close bond street for four and a half minutes for us. Four and a half minutes. Then we had some down time - I saw my mum and my brother. My brother is eight so he came to the hotel and ordered some room service. He had pancakes in bed and was in bliss! He said 'can I have pancakes?' and I said 'yes you can.' I was in good sister books."
Grazia Daily: You went to the BFAs...
Lily: "We had rehearsals, then I ran to the BFAs. I did meet Rihanna and that made my night because obviously I have the biggest crush on her of all time.
Grazia Daily: Did you keep your cool?
Lily: "No not at all. I usually do, but for that one I was like 'you're amazing and you're the best thing ever basically.' So I didn't play it cool, but that's fine. What are you going to do if you meet Rihanna?"
