Lily Donaldson

Guys, it's my opinion, that is the beauty of forums, people have different opinions and can talk about it. It's a democracy!!!!!
And yes, to answer your question, she is Matthew's daughter, I was quite surprised too.
Of course you're entitled to your opinion :flower: I had no idea about her dad thanks for the info - though I still think she wouldn't have come this far if she wasn't a great model in her own right

You may be right, but a lot of "posh" models out there, were found by their parents' friends (i.e. Isabella Blow with her friends' kids, Stella, Honor and so on, Isabella admitted this herself).
I just don't like the current pikey model trend: Lily, Stam, Gemma (I can see why people like her tho),Caroline, etc... I find these ladies sooooooooo dull and naff.

More Bianca! More Mariacarla! More Doutzen (or however her name is spelled), Ana Beatriz, Malgosia, the stunning Jeisa!

Thanks Californiasoul.
Hey Lady Stardust, I didn't mean to sound aggressive at all, here's an olive branch, I'm just a very passionate person, that's all, in my likes and in my dislikes

Matthew Donaldson doesn't even do fashion photography anymore - therefore, he doesn't have much influence... Look at the Richards girls.. they have the famous parents push, and they didn't go anywhere besides a few crappy fashion shows. Obviously, Lily got to where she is on her own - even if her dad did introduce her to a modelling agency, most models are scouted one way or another... He doesn't get her all her jobs, etc.

M. Donaldson is still totally adored in the UK fashion industry, and his word still counts, however, you're right, I'm sure people see something in her, most of you do. Hey, if we all liked the same people/same kind of beauty, very few of us would have sex!!!!

Lily Donaldson is Matthew Donaldson's daughter. She was not accidentally discovered by anybody, but they just can't say "Well, actually, it's nepotism".
I apologise to all of you who like her, and I'm not here to start any arguments, as the latins used to say, de gustibus non disputandum est (to each its own), but I think SHE IS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL and if her father wasn't Matthew D., she would have NEVER been a model. Sorry guys, and please do explain to me why you like her, again, don't wanna argue, just curious. I honestly find her repulsive, her face looks like half of it is missing, no cheekbones, nothing, she looks so common and pikey.....

Because she fills all the criteria of a model. She is very tall and thin with narrow hips, great skin and as for her face she looks totally unique. She also has very wide set eyes, a small nose and pouty lips, classicly beautiful features.

I dont agree. If you look at her face and her body, you can see, that she is a very superb girl. Her hips are a little bit small, but she is nice. If you can't see that.... ok. But there a lot of people who say oooohhhh, when she appears. Thats why she is nearly on every importand show.

Cheers to everyone for keeping things civil!
I've been at other forums where a slight disagreement or an attack on someone's favorite artist/model/whatever lead to flame wars and banning of members -__-...

Anyhow, not to sound like a complete clueless idiot (though I am) I didn't even know who Matthew Donaldson was? *hangs head in shame and Googles him*
I'm a very latecomer into fashion so I've got lots to learn. It was actually Lily's Lanvin Fall 05 ads that caught my attention and got me hooked onto fashion.
So IMHO she's a superb model with impeccable looks and a signature (tho at times weird) runway walk that's so unique and unmistakably her. I happen to like the "pikey model trend" lol, but I think Lily stands out...She definitely knows how to work her look and make the clothes look great!

From what I'm seeing I don't think many ppl even know that she's Matthew D's daughter, so I doubt designers adore her because of that.
I study in the field of communications, and everyone tells me connections are key to landing good jobs, but once you get in, you'd be immediately spit back out if you don't have what it takes.
I think everyone needs a little push in the right direction, and in Lily's case she's definitely excelled in her own right.

Lol, just my two cents, sorry to blabber on..but thanks Alexisaxe for teaching me something new today :p

Lily Donaldson Looking Iconic

Lily Donalson is now on the brink of breaking into that very restricted inner circle of girls who have attracted all the right variables needed for longevity. She has the ultra-select editorials, the pick of the best runway shows and guaranteed appearances in the coveted campaigns. And now this Numero covers certainly telegraphs that hers is a beauty that will stand the test of time. This girl is headed for the pinnacle.

She may have benefited from nepotism, but so have an incredible amount of other people. Like Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, or Devon Aoki, her parents' name helped to get her foot in the door, but her own talent and beauty was what got her as far as she is. Without talent she would only be lumped in with the rockstar daughters and heiresses.

Does anyone else think that she looks very different now to how she looked in her first Burberry campaign? I almost could not recognise her (if there wasn't the caption "model: Lily Donaldson" underneath  )

Everyone else I agree ...... But Devon Aoki? Com'on, her only remote claim to fame (before she became a successful model then turned into an acctress that is:innocent: ) is that her father owns a chain of restaurants. How does that help her in the fashion industry? (Unless she subtly slipped everyone a 20% off discount coupon at her father's restaurant, if they ordered Dim sums together with fried noodles)

^well her parents are pretty rich, and it's a lot easier to get things you want when you have money. Devon may not have benefited as much but it still affected her career.
