Lessons from Lonneke: Avocado is Amazing!

lonnekeavocado.jpg

The divineLonneke Engel has been a successful model for over a decade, most famously as the face of Ralph Lauren. Now studying to be a certified health counselor, Chic Report asked her to share a new health and beauty tip every week. Enjoy!
Avocado has the most fiber of any fruit and a lot of potassium, not to mention tons of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and good fats. I eat it often. Here’s how: I mash an avocado and spread it on a whole wheat cracker. Then I add a bit of pepper and salt and some spicy pepper flakes. It’s filling, easy to digest, tastes great, and works as low-burning fuel for the body. It is truly my favorite snack!

Lessons From Lonneke: Quit Skipping Breakfast!

When I skip breakfast, I tend to snack more in the late afternoon. A good meal avoids this. Even when you’re in a hurry, take five minutes to eat something that’ll give you good energy instead of coffee and a bagel on the run! Juice some fruits or toast whole wheat bread. Cut up an apple, or mix organic yogurt with organic muesli. I prefer oatmeal, which is surprisingly easy to make–even the non-instant version. Just heat water and oats in a pan and wait till the oats become soft. Stir regularly. Add raisins or fruits like apples, bananas or berries and you’ll have a great breakfast—fast! Oatmeal releases energy slowly, which makes you stay satisfied for a long time. It’s a great way to start your day!
