Los Angeles Street Style

This is not exactly a street style question, more of a business style question. I have a business meeting with an executive with a movie studio coming up, and I am afraid if I show up in a suit, even a chic one (normal business attire for my industry), I will look completly out of place in the relaxed LA atmosphere. Any thoughts?

you can dress more relaxed in la. maybe some cute dress with a formal top and blazer?

i agree! or a nice chic white lacey blouse (chloe-ish) a black blazer and some jeans with heels

Hi all,

Well did my 3 days in LA... what a fabulous place!!!
Really suprised the dress code is more conservative than I had expected, and not so far away from UK style. ( just the LA girls more attractive and polite - guys a bit cheesy though!!!!)
Also not as many individual home grown brands as Id hoped for but still managed to pick up some good pieces from
Lisa Kline, Kitson, Fred Segal.
Preferred the boutiques along Robinson - found Melrose tacky and cheap.
Who Wouldnt love rodeo....although didnt come here for European design labels.
Beverley Centre also a bit mainstream.
Loved walking and shopping in Santa Monica - skipped Venice Beach.
will post some photos once I have worked out how to!!!
I am now sitting back at my desk with a photo next to my monitor of a veiw accross LA ... cant wait to come back!

Can't see much, but it's a pic of my friend and i.
(hahahaha riding around in a hummer stretch limo around hollywood and vine)
....good memories....

melrose ave actually has some high end good boutiques in the other end (costume national, marc jacobs, fred segal, betsey johson etc etc.)..
the middle of melrose street is rather tacky and cheap (except vintage stores)...i guess you didnt find the right end...

Love that combo. Thanks.

HK Girl- i'm glad you had a good time here! it sounds to me that you did i good job of covering all your bases as far as shopping goes. as far as the conservative vs. laid back style, i think there's a really good mixture of both.

bummer I must not hv gone far enough down melrose..
Next time!
looked through my pics yday..wished I bought more.Unfortunately not sure I can face a 14hr flight again till next season ..or at least till monsoon season has passed.
That turbulence is something else so that even the best denim& prints can wait!

The girl in the top right at #137 looks very familiar. Is she a model or something ? I'm thinking Catrina Stella or Nicole Trunfio... or maybe just a look-a-like... I'm not really familiar with those...

anyway, i'm in LA for college now and realised that LA style only exists around west hollywood and robertson/beverley hills area. everywhere else pretty much epitomises the californian trash stereotype.

i agree completely about the fashion areas, the rest of LA are a bunch of suburb kids who imitate Cory Kennedy and the Olsen twins, and walk about Melrose and various thrift shops looking for more of the "i don't give a sh*t how i look" look. it's really tiring.
i'm from LA, and i must say if you live here for longer than a few months you'll start to notice that Angelinos really don't dress all that well. in the malibu/santa monica/beach areas, you have the beachwear chic (pretty much mini skirts, flip flops, MTV's Laguna Beach style basically). then the hipper parts of LA such as Robertson Blvd you'll just see a bunch of big sunglasses on teeny tiny thin girls with huge bags. imo, i don't find LA to have the best street scene.

LA's street scene is horrible. Sure there's a few diamonds in the rough so to speak, but that's about it. Shoot, you would think more celebs would dress better....but they don't...

Carioca, I agree with you, but I think he Silverlake area the style is definately better..Go to Part Time Punks at the Echo and I think people dress quite good IMO.. Its not the trashy "i dont care what im wearing a.k.a. Cory Kennedy look" but cleaner and nicer.. Ive actually seen people wear Dior Homme there, counting me in as well...
One day Karen O and Johnny Knoxville danced with us there..
