updated Intel

but i'm in need of a new laptop
my 5 year old is still chugging along but not for long:(

I've been using Apple laptops since 2003 and I would never use any other operating system! I recently bought a new MacBook (my old one has definitely served it's time!), however I am having issues with continuous internet connection problems. Every few minutes the connection will drop, even though it says I have full airport. The 3 other computers in the house are doing fine, so it's not the internet provider. I've updated everything and am still baffled. After doing some internet browsing I'm starting to think that maybe it's a Snow Leopard thing?

Has anyone else had this problem and remedied it? I really don't feel like ringing up tech support unless I have to

What do you guys think of MacBooks adorned with bumper sticker-like things? It's usually Mac users, not PC users, that do this.. I really hate it. Ruins a beautiful, simple-looking piece of machinery.

then I'll definitely go to hell with my 5 stickers :P:lol:

seriously, who cares? it's up to personal taste, isn't it?

I'm about to download a video player onto my MacBook and I'm trying to decide between divX or VLC (VideoLAN). Does anyone here know which one would be better? Thank you

I use VLC, never heard of the other but VLC always works well for me!

VLC for sure! I used to have dvix as well, for the encoding/decoding part, but the player was a huge let-down.

Thanks for the advice guys! Yeah I used to have problems with divx eating up my disk space on my really old computer, which had Windows; hopefully VLC will be a lot better.

no kidding... I love my Macbook, but it's a computer, not some kind of holy vessel. I swear some people just about brand themselves with the Apple logo. I wouldn't put stickers on mine though, it bugs me even having them on my car... :P

by the way, having VLC is the BEST. I love making screencaps from DVDs, like of certain scenery, outfits, etc., and it's so easy with VLC as opposed to the standard Mac DVD player.

Omg, the Mac DVD Player.app is such a baby compared to VLC.
DVD Player VS. VLC = VLC wins. Unless one needs just straightforward playback, the DVD Player is good.

Same for music with iTunes VS. Vox = Vox wins. I dunno if there are any nicer/simpler music players for Mac than Vox, but iTunes annoyed me because of it's CPU load and memory hogging tendencies due to my extensive library. And it only got worse with newer versions, with like 300-500 MB ram and about 80% CPU load for iTunes compared to the <10 MB and <8-9% CPU with Vox while playing. Huge difference. I only had to put QuickTime in login items otherwise iTunes starts every time I press the playback button on keyboard, that's also something that used to drive me crazy. :judge: But as long as QuickTime stays in Dock iTunes is ignored. :magic:

Does anyone know anything better than Vox? I'm happy with it (very so), but if there is something nicer, I'd love to try! :flower:

LoL, btw, funny how VLC and Vox both have just three letters in the name, must mean something. *goes to search from more apps with short names*

if my macbook was some kind of holy vessel I certainly would not put stickers on it :P well, everyone to his taste

the new macbook Air is finally out,

i'm still trying to decide on which one to pick
11 or 13

prices, prices

^ They brought back the backlit keyboard in the new MacBook Air.
Now I'm like, eyeing my 2nd gen Air like it's not worthy anymore. haha
Seriously though, even I try to justify it by saying I don't need it cause I can touch type in the dark, backlit keypads are just so cool.

I currently have a macbook pro (and a macbook that needs screen repair). I am hooked for life. Never will buy another non-mac.
